In the past few weeks, I have seen and participated in many discussions on the recent school shootings.
What I don’t understand is why Obama will go out on national television in a campaign like setting in Las Vegas and call for everyone to act, to be on his side to pass Gun Control legislation, but he doesn't go on national television to address the nation and ask for the people to help to end gun Violence. Why won’t he come out and say to the nation that no matter what Congress passes it doesn’t work if the States and the people don’t help to make the country a safer place.

Isn’t this supposed to be a nation that was created by the people, of the People by the People and for the people, and our politicians serve us not the other way around?

Why doesn’t Obama go on national T.V. and say;

“We will look at what we can do to strengthen our gun laws to make sure guns are not ending up in the hands of criminals and the mentally ill but you do not have to wait to act. You have the power to reduce gun accidents and gun crime by acting now to learn proper gun safety and storage. We could be doing things now like instituting the Eddie Eagle Program to teach k-4th Graders simple gun Safety;

If you see a gun:
STOP!
Don't Touch.
Leave the Area.
Tell an Adult.

You could be going online and finding out the best way to secure your firearms for what makes sense for your situation.

We could be requiring conflict resolution teaching in school to teach our children how to resolve conflicts without resorting to violence. Isn’t that supposed to be part of the Safe Schools initiative so kids can feel safe at school and not bullied, etc?

You could be calling on your States and legislatures to Comply with the NICS system and report convicted criminals, people deemed mentally unstable, report people convicted of drug violations, etc.

If you are the victim of a robbery and your guns are stolen report them to the Police so that Law enforcement will know there out there and you are no longer liable if that gun is used in a crime.

There are many, many things that as Citizens of the United States you could be doing now to help curb gun violence in the U.S..

You don’t need to wait for Congress to act or an Executive Order from me for something to be done.

This country is founded on the Principle that the people are intelligent and capable of determining for themselves how our government should work and what our laws should be. This country works when people are involved and taking responsibility for it. Ask yourself are you doing what you can to prevent gun violence or are you just waiting for the government to do something about it?

Here’s a website with xxxxx information on what you can be doing now. It covers proper gun safety, safety rules you can teach your children when they see a gun, how to properly store weapons when they are not in use, etc.”

Not a bad speech huh?

Why is it that ending gun violence is only a Legislative issue and what matters is what they can get passed and turned into law and not about citizens themselves taking a role in our society?

There are millions of gun owners and groups that would be more than happy to help make the country safer and help reduce gun violence. Many are offered free of charge or very inexpensively. Lawful gun owners do not want guns in the hands of criminals and don’t like gun violence anymore than you do. They do not like seeing children killed by guns any more than you do.

Instead of attacking lawful gun ownership, trying to limit their rights and making them the scapegoats every time a psychopath with a gun kills a child, why aren't you asking law abiding gun owners for help?

    because the NRA and the gun manufactures spend millions of dollars to stop such campaigns.  Their profits depend on illegal sales.

    How is it punishing to require registration from a gun show buyer?  Still nothing logical there.

What in your mind would be the reason why the government would need to register guns and gun owners?  Unless of course it's so they know where to find the legal guns when they decide to ban them!   I could see it now, Joe Street Gang guy:  Buyer "Hey dude, I need a piece"  Seller, "Sure just fill out this paperwork and I'll send it in, you can have it in 14 days"  Buyer, "No Problem, wouldn't want to hold up a convenience store with an illegal gun"   These useless laws are pure nonsense!  It's all political posturing and "Feel Good" laws, but I guess you already know that because you seem to feel good with them especially because it restricts everyone else!
Don't accuse me of lying.  I could say the same thing about you.
THEN Say it and Prove it!  Your statement about the NRA is 100% False!  Not one bit of truth in it! So you have three choices, admit to the lie, admit that you are just ignorant or simply say Oops, I was mis-informed so I take it back (which also proves ignorance)!  BTW your contempt of the NRA does not make your statement true either!  Once again this is not an attack on you personally, it's an attack on your actions!  Intentionally spreading misleading and false information makes one a liar!

    No, I will not.  According to my sources it is the truth.  You will not accept those sources and I will not accept yours because they have been proven partisan.  When someone is paid by an organization to make statements, of course it will be questioned.  You and I are never going to agree and your accusations and name calling won't change that.

    I'm positive that the fed gov't REQUIRES very accurate records from the gun manufacturers in reference to every model they ship or keep in house. Every new gun is bought with the required background check - hence, all weapons sold new, are legal. As for profits, why else would a company be in business?

    And how does that matter if private sales and gun shows are not obligated to do background checks?  That's the primary way that the mass shooters get their guns?
Oh don't forget that the records of a certain number (reported to be in the thousands) of legally purchased guns by the government were probably not properly done as they mysteriously fell into the hands of the mexican drug cartels which used them to kill thousands of innocent Mexican citizens and two US border patrol agents!  God only knows how many of them are making it illegally into the hands of Mexican street gangs too!  But the left wingers here will certainly tell you that if the Gun manufacturers didn't make them in the first place, this wouldn't have been a problem!

    So you have called anyone who has or supports gun control "sheep".  Did you mean that as a compliment?  A term of respect?  Or was it meant to demean and insult?  Try being honest here please.  Would it surprise you that someone would object to that term?  And respond in kind with another demeaning insult?

    So if you are insulted by it, then it's your prerogative, however My analogy is meant to demonstrate true facts of human nature!

    A simplistic and jejune analogy in which you obviously believe that you are a sheep dog.  I'd consider that an insult as well, but if it works for you, great.

    So if you can call me a sheep, why can't I call you a gun-loving psycho?  It's only an insult if you choose to read it as so.  Right?   I think that "analogy" works.

    Segueing back to the top of the thread: Escalating bad behavior, each saying the other did it first, around and around.... with guns in hand, such a sequence is lethal. That's doubtless why the OP suggested teaching conflict resolution in school - a very good idea.

    No, it isn't.  It's one of the many loopholes in the law.  And the majority of gun crimes are committed with unlicensed firearms that were sold privately.
