I have been a Nudist for roughly 35 years and have seen clothing optional California beaches and resorts closed over the years because a few bad actors. In these WOKE times why are Nudist not afforded the same rights as LGBTQ+. Since I was a baby, I was nude all the time and as I grew up my mother and father said I took my clothes off every chance I had where it waa not considered "unacceptable behavior". I didn't make a conscious decision to be a nudist, I just felt normal nude. I have some gay men and women friends who say they felt the same way about their orientation. If that is true how is being a nudist any different? Just wondering...

Interesting angle. Could even have a striped flag displaying a range of skin tones...

You seem to be conflating orientation or identity with behavior. You are still free to be naked wherever it's considered socially acceptable. It's just that the realm of socially acceptable public nudity may have decreased since you were a child. You also have the right to identify as nudist as your friends have the right to identify as LGBTQ+. In any case, we are all held accountable for our behavior. Both nudism and LGBTQ+ orientation imply unconventional or nonheteronormative behaviors. My impression is that most people are more accepting than we give them credit for as long as it's in the appropriate setting. For me it's about walking the line between expressing our individuality and freedom and showing respect to others in our public behavior. I just wish there were more settings where public nudity were acceptable and more people who could prioritize respectful nudity in public.

Always curious when nudists want to hitch nudist rights to LGBTQIA or other marginalized groups without understanding how they are different. Also wonder if they dont think naturism can stand on its own. Maybe that because of the loss of any real rationale for nudism beyond getting naked. Most have abandoned all the other aspects that made for a logical rationale for naturism and nudist rights.

The weak comparison offered is an example of what makes me wonder. As other have said LGBTQIA rights are separate and apart and shouldnt be coopted out respect for that community. Not to mention the fact that there is still a great deal of homophobia in the nudist community.

Does anyone else think so?

By your own admission you have had very little experience of social naturism. How did you find out the sexuality of those people around you, to be able to make that statement? I think you, like so many other believe that TN reflects real life naturism, it doesnt. Its not even close.

Why isnt TN and other naturist website reflective of real world naturism? What is it about naturism that changes when you talk about it on line? I belong to another special interest forum, for amateur photographers specifically DLSR owners. I can say with good authority that every single member of that forum, has a camera and enjoys taking pictures. It absolutely reflects what amateur photographers do and experience in real life. Why is that different?

I guess I was thinking that perhaps gay and bi men are more open to joining a group and discussing it. Why I don't know.

Interesting to attempt to compare photographers to nudists. In some ways, photography is, at its most basic level, a way to capture a moment in time and place by a person. But by being the photographer, by trying to freeze time and capture forever an instant that will never happen again, by only watching the moment, the cameraperson is separated from the scene and the moment, putting the camera between the individual and the experience. In that sense, the photographer is the exact opposite of the nudist, in hiding him or herself from the time and place, becoming little more than a voyeur to what is happening. I was at a KISS concert with my sweetie just a few days before coronavirus began its awful rampage around the world and people began dying in America. We purposefully left our phones in the car because we wanted to experience the concert together and without placing ourselves outside of the moment. The audience was jam-packed with people who were hiding behind their smartphones for most of the time David Lee Roth and then the men of KISS were giving us a part of themselves. Sweat and confetti and fire and an intense power through music was essentially missed by them as they, the documentarians, kept filming. John Lennon's famous quote pertaining to this issue, painfully paraphrased, sounds something like, "Life is what happens when you're making a video." Having a permanent reminder of a moment gives you something to share and look back on, but where were you when it happened? Stuck behind a barrier. It is better to be in the moment than to be a spectator to it. Too heady? Yes you have a record of the event but only a partial record lacking much if what is going on outside the field if view. And by focusing on taking photos you miss out on a lot of what is going on around you. Whereas when I am naked somewhere I feel far more aware of my surroundings, what is going on etc.

LGBT is about a sexual orientation. Nudism is about wellness or naturopathy. Understand the history, then you can create a future. I see your point. LGBT people have sometimes a coming out. Can also happen to nudists. Some LGBT people want to show there orientation everywhere. Some nudists want to be naked everywhere. ("nakedness is a human right") Does it make sense? Is it good PR for nudism? In my opinion we should be naked in nudism areas. I don't need a coming out everywhere. And I don't believe that it will be a good PR or marketing for nudism.

So much of naturism online has become about making the video or capturing the photo rather than living the life.

Because within the nudist community there are also LGBTQ individuals. By posting one's sexual orientation on their profile it helps other's of that orientation find each other. Same as posting you live in a certain state, it allows others who may be local to you to connect with you. 5

It shouldnt be a question for that exact reason. If nudists are as accepting as some say a person sexual orientation should have no bearing on there participation inthe nudist community. But this is an online site that has a bit of a dual personality. Cant decide if it is a nudist site or a dating site or something in between. No one would ask for a persons sexual orientation when visiting a proper nudist resort community unless it was a venue that caters exclusively to the LGBTQIA community.
if t6here is no connection between LGBQT+ and naturism why on joining TN is one of the profile questions about sexual orientation
Being dressed is a choice. A well driven one to the point of requirement in most places.
But we are nudist all the time, even when we must be covered.
