There was recently a heavily discussed thread in the Ladies Room titled Not Many Women Here. That created a question that I did not want to append to that thread. The question is what is the ratio of nudist men to women in the real world (in the US or elsewhere)? This web site is far from representative, because it is not female friendly. My basis for a real-world estimate is small.
It is my experience at the clothing optional place I visit 3 to 4 times a year that it is probably close to 60:40 men to women. It seems to range from 65:35 men to women, to this last time I was outnumbered, and it was probably 40:60 men to women. That doesnt happen often. This location is safe you have to register, show ID, you have to pay, and there are other safeguard in place. That is opposed to this web site where if you are a woman, there is a 100% chance you will be sexually harassed by the very large number of men that think this is a sex site. (The ratio of certified men to women is about 50:1; the ratio for uncertified members is hard to determine because so many of the womens profiles are fake.) I commend any women that have successful strategies for enduring on True Nudist. The few times I have visited Blacks Beach, the demographic there was more similar to the True Nudist web site, which suggests the 60:40 number is off. That may just suggest that it is not a place women are comfortable.

It seems that there is no question that when it comes to social nudity men out number women. However, it seems the roots of that is the safety and fear of harassment issue, and even deeper than that, the whole male as the dominant sex, which is hopefully fading somewhat. However, there are the anomalies where in the social setting the ratio is closer to one-to-one, and that is not always because of couples. I have seen groups of young women visiting clothing-optional hot springs together - safety in numbers. Unless there is a Gallup Poll or some kind of well designed survey of the population (not an internet survey) we will probably never have a good feel for the true number of men and women nudists in current society. I have not seen such a thing done recently - has anyone else? Men are definitely more likely to participate in internet sites related to nudism, and so I don't think the internet will ever give you a true picture.
Might the number of women sunbathing naked in their backyard or by their pool be greater than men? But then there is a whole other discussion - what makes a nudist or naturist?
