Some of my gym shorts are wearing out so I ordered 2 new pair yesterday.
Since our grandson is here more and I am going less places that expect better dress, my gym shorts have seen a lot of use lately
My current supply has inseams in the 8" (20 cm) range, well above the knee but not really short.
Wanted to try something shorter so I ordered one pair with a 4" inseam and one with 5".
Will be fine at home, but don't know how it will work when I eventually get back to the gym since I never wear underwear.
One of the reviewers called them the ideal work at home uniform.
I suspect most of us would disagree and say that the ideal at home work uniform is nothing at all!
Both of my pairs of jeans are showing a lot of wear but don't have any holes in them. I will probably want to buy new ones in the fall. Should I: Cut them to about 5" inseam and have 2 more pairs of shorts for general summer use? Cut them really short and open the side seams and just wear them at home when I can't be nude? Toss them and have 2 fewer items of clothing?
On the suggestion of several people, I wore them for one more season. Now they do have a few holes so I am not going to wear them next winter, None of the holes are in a particularly revealing place. Any suggestions of which of the three options I should take?
Now that I am wearing only 5" shorts, I guess when I need to replace any, it will be time to move down again. 3" gym shorts and 4" dress shorts sound good.
I did recently get a pair of true 3" gym shorts. They are also a little lighter weight than my 5" ones. When you put something like a phone or wallet in a pocket, the bottom of the pocket sags below the hem. I always liked the look of pockets sticking out, but never had the nerve to cut my shorts that short when it was the fashion in the 70's.ybAs my current 5" gym shorts wear out, I will replace them with more 3" ones. Or maybe I should order more 3" ones now and toss the longer ones!

Very HOT there John. I would have loved sitting in the restaurant seeing that.

The couple of shorts that I wear to the gym are 5 inseams and stretchy with a liner, although I like to hang outside of the liner. I recently posted a pic in my profile of before I went to the gym one morning. I do stay in at the gym, but not sure what it looks like from someone elses point of view.

Actually, I bought some basic gym equipment during Covid and started working out nude in the basement. While I thought that I would go back to the gym eventually, I didn't because working out nude in the basement was so comfortable and convenient. Because of this, I got rid of about half of my gym shorts and sleeveless shirts.

I was considering this topic as we had a long weekend here (for a horse race:-) ) along with warming weather. I'm glad someone dug up the topic so I don't have to.

My dress shorts and casual shorts are not super short, so if I want to bear my legs, etc. a little more, it's running shorts.

I have a pair of 3" nylon running shorts bought from the Australian Kmart (since discontinued) and with the lining removed. No stretch in the material but they are fairly loose and open so only the waistband is in any way constricting unless they are a little twisted on my body. I have to take a little care in my movements, particularly crouching, bending over, sitting or alighting from a vehicle but with a little precaution there's usually no risk while if I relax my guard there can be exposure. Happy to wear them around the house, walking and for a quick trip to the shops where I accept that I'll have to hold my keys, phone and wallet in my hand, since the internal pocket can't cope with substantial weight. Even when covered, perhaps a little bobbing could be noticed, but I'll usually be wearing a shirt that half covers them and disguises the movement somewhat. Occasionally an outline may be noticeable.

My pair of 2" running shorts, also bought from the Australian Kmart (and also discontinued) but found in the women's department and were sold unlined. I reckon they're fine with a casual glance, but my wife thinks they're too short, period. The material has a little stretch but they are slightly less loose. They are also a little see-through with light behind so a backlight can reveal what I'm not wearing if I stand with legs akimbo. As with my other shorts, an outline or movement may occasionally be visible beneath the fabric. Losing an inch of leg length compared to my other running shorts greatly increases the risk of exposure for every movement except walking. But they are nicely comfortable and airey.

My Skinzwear A14 shorts are also 2" but seem to be less risky, even with the side splits that effectively go all the way to the waistband. Either it's in the cut cupping things, or I just have less experience as I usually only wear them walking to the beach rather than at other times. They are definitely the most sheer with light behind them, but the print effectively disguises the view of skin through fabric.

Own three pairs of short shorts. Didn't wear either of them this past summer. I feel to overdressed when wearing them
