I chat with many who say they are "home nudist " how is being at home nude make you a nudist ? who doesn't go around they're home nude , bathe , sleep . to me a nudist is one who sheds they're clothes at home but also outside and becomes one with nature . someone who is comfortable being nude with others at a nudist resorts/camp , beach and would have no problem if legal in public weather going to the store , restaurant or stopping at the gas station and filling your gas tank. if "home nudist" is a thing than we all have been nudist since we were born .

Nudists reach certain nudist levels in their behaviour. What you describe is the highest level. Nude showering is not a nudist behaviour. But if you are longer nude, let's say one hour after the shower it is nudist behaviour on a low level. A home nudist is more nude at home than a textile. We old guys learnt nudism at the beach, right? The younger generation googles "nudism" and starts beeing nude at home. Especially during the covid crisis many people started with home nudism. We should welcome these home nudists and bring them to the next level.

This is a very good question.

Speaking personally, we were always casual with clothes at home and had been going nude at the beach for years before we even thought of ourselves as nudists.

It was only through interacting with others and making nudist friends that we finally started telling people we were nudists. (Real life, not internet)

Thats our journey into nudism, but understand that others have very different experiences.

There have been many threads over the years with people (men) saying they are new nudists, and wanting to get into nudism like its like taking up knitting. Many have confused nudism with other things, some still do.

Weird people thing never wearing underpants makes them nudists, or even worse throwing out all there clothes and only ever wearing a babys sock over their cock when they need to get a stamp from the post office.

So in my opinion, unless you actually get out and meet other nudists, youll never understand what it really means. If you only ever do it on line, then you end up believing lies and fantasies and stupidly repeating them thinking they are facts.

Get a real life and youll keep it real here.

My wife is one of them. So were my parents. Surveys show that only a small minority sleep nude, at least in the US.

The term "home nudist" carries varied meanings across the spectrum of those who practice it. In my own experience, this concept has evolved through distinct phases for me:

    1) In the beginning, home represented a sanctuary where I could shed my clothes before I'd even discovered the term "nudist" or realized I belonged to a larger community with similar preferences. Those private rooms became my laboratory for understanding my own comfort with nakedness. As time passed, the concept of "home" expanded to include social spacesboth my own and those of like-minded friendswhere clothing remained optional. I've come to understand that many people find complete fulfillment in home nudity alone, cherishing the unmatched sense of safety and tranquility that comes with being unclothed in one's personal space.

    2) Now, many years later, my relationship with nudity has evolved beyond mere home comfort. While home remains a clothing-free sanctuary, I've expanded into social nudismparticipating in gatherings or venturing to designated spaces like resorts, beaches, and clubs. The boundaries between private and public nudity have blurred; home is just one of many environments where I can authentically exist without textile barriers.

While I fully embrace those who find their nudist expression solely within home walls, I've encountered many individuals at the threshold of something more. For these curious souls, a gentle invitation to wider experiencesperhaps a small gathering or information about a welcoming beachcan open doors they've been quietly contemplating. The journey from private to social nudism deserves patient guidance, always respecting each person's unique pace and boundaries.

It may seem normal to be nude at home to us, but for many even walking around nude at home would be strange. As Marcus says, you have to start somewhere and at home is a safe way to start. As you build up confidence you can start expanding your nude experiences to more social ones. Even with 15 years as a nudist, my first nude yoga class this summer was uncomfortable. Most of the members at our nudist resort dont get nude for yoga, so I didnt either. The next weekend was young naturist weekend and Mrs. J&C also went. We decided to go nude to make any visitors more comfortable going nude (it worked, by the way). From that weekend on I felt comfortable practicing yoga nude, even though I was in the minority (or even the only one) being nude. The same would probably happen if it were legal to go to the store nude. I've done it at Club Orient in St. Martin, but being in a public store where not everyone was nude? It would take a while before it was no problem.
Surveys show that only a small minority sleep nude, at least in the US.
Finally, something that can be fact checked. I searched. Survey of nude sleeping in the USA. Here is what I got. Surveys on sleeping nude in the US show varied results, with some finding a low preference for it (around 17%) while others suggest a higher percentage of people do it at least sometimes (e.g., 28.5% in a Casper survey, though not all nightly). The Better Sleep Council's 2022 report indicated that about 21% of US adults sleep nude a few times a week or more, though the majority (74%) wear pajamas or nightshirts. Ive no idea which survey you read, but 21% is not a small minority.

Surprised because I thought that it was a common choice for American men.

Two years ago our son who lives with us happened to mention that I often swim nude when we don't have company. The son who doesn't live here was absolutely shocked. We have a 6 foot privacy fence around the pool and deck.

You fail to understand that not everyone who is a "nudist" can get out to nudist resorts, beaches and such so being nude at home is the only outlet they have to being nude and there is nothing wrong with that. Besides who business is it anyway to say who is and who isn't a nudist?

My definition of a nudist is a person who thinks that if it doesn't make sense to be clothed, it makes sense not to be clothed. So I'm not surprised that some people prefer to be nude at home. That makes them nudists, in my book, whether or not they seek out other nudists in social situations.

As for sleeping nude, I've been doing it since I was twenty, living for the first time in my own home. I had only sporadic contact with social nudism during that time, but that contact might have been the trigger for the decision to chuck the pajamas.

I consider myself to be a nudist. Pretty much nude 24/7 at home on my property. All of my neighbors see me almost daily(they said they were fine with it). Most family come over with me staying nude. The closest nude beach is almost 5hrs away. I am nude in my backyard, in my front yard , my everywhere on my property. I drive places nude. I haven't however spent time with other nudists in many years. So does does that make me not a nudist or can I be considered one because I wear clothes only about 2-4 hrs a month. The last nude beach I went to was blacks beach in the beach mid 70s.

I average twice that just with grocery shopping!

Because of my back issues if I go to an actual grocery store the cart is literally holding me up half way thru the store, so all shopping that can be done online is done so. I go to the post office when needed, to the dump twice a month, to the convenience stores when needed.

I appreciate the question, and I hope it's a genuine curious question and not trying to gatekeep the lifestyle, so I'll answer in that spirit. I think all of us are living in whatever way we can, are comfortable with and are able to under our circumstances. We all have our own situations and limits or maybe are at a particular point in un-learning the stigmas against nudity that we were taught all our lives.

I suppose the term describes us best more or less, since we just live nude at home as a preference and habit, not really intentionally or any kind of rule like "there will be no clothes worn in our house" or anything, it's just how we preferred to live, and seemed natural and healthy and was perfect for us.
However, we were living amongst a lot of people who had really puritannical ideas about nudity so just to protect our family we instinctively felt the best thing was to keep that part of our lifestyle to ourselves and just do it at home and stay dressed everywhere else.

We thought if we took our family to nude beaches or resorts somehow word would get back to some of these intolerant people who know us and they would cause problems in our community. Was that really necessary to be that cautious? I don't know, maybe it was overkill. In hindsight, I wish we had been more social, met other nudists, tried nude venues, but we just lived nude at home because we felt it was the safest thing to do to protect our family and felt that was necessary.

Now we're here and have tried some beaches and love being nude beyond home and wish we had done that years and years ago. And maybe under those circumstances that might have been a mistake all things considered. Maybe it would have been perfectly fine. The past is the past, but my point is that I don't think where you go nude, or with whom, makes you any more or less real or sincere. We can just relax and be who we are and enjoy the freedom of naturalism and not try to check one another about whether we're doing it right enough.

Here's my personal interpretation on the difference between casual nudity at home and home-nudism. Again, mypersonalinterpretation. Illustrated with two examples. Casual nudity: My wife is taking her bath while I'm watching TV. She comes out of her bath and into the living room - with just a towel wrapped around her head. She wants to remind me of the week's events, so we have a casual conversation about it. She then returns to the bathroom to finish her nighttime beauty routine. I then come to the bedroom and remove my clothes. The conversation from earlier resumes; this time with both of us nude. And we then both go to bed. We've both hung out and interacted naked; but it was mostly just a practical function of preparing for bedtime. Home nudism: It's Sunday and we've got nothing planned. So we jointly decide we're going to spend it in "nudist-style." We both get naked, play a board game, cook dinner together and watch a movie. The goal is to specifically do all these things while naked. There are of course levels to it, from full-time nudity at home to "just on special occasions." But the idea is still the same. To purposefully dispense with clothing to the extent that it's almost like you're at a resort. It's a mindset.

It is a mindset, ours is, as long as its warm enough the door is locked and we expect no visitors then clothes are not necessary.

After work, usually, we cook and eat our evening meal naked, talk about our day then settle down reading or watching some TV before bed.
Do you both usually sleep nude?
Me: 100% of the time. My wife: it varies. Something like nude 50% of the time, just topless 30% of the time, and shorts and T-shirt 20% (it can get cold around here). At a nudist venue she's nude 100% of the time.
