It really seems to put everyone on the same playing field if everyone is naked. It can seem a little awkward when some are dressed and some are not. If there are a lot of people dressed, than that is when I notice that I am not dressed.
It seems that there are themes for a lot of the dances and parties at nudist resorts. People attend the parties and dress according to the "theme". I wish sometime the theme was just a"Birthday-Suit" theme.
I understand the weather sometimes prohibits people from being completely undressed ... but when the situation allows, I think everyone should be naked at a nudist resort. Most resorts seem to be clothing optional, I wish most places would have a rule that nudity is required.

den_o_bearOriginal PosterMay 11, 2017There was one instance when I was at a club that had indicated nudity was "expected"... One of the employees at the club finished her shift, remained fully clothes and hung outside the main club house for several hours. Her male friend/husband was walking around with clothes on as well. Over the course of a few days, I never saw the couple naked, but they spent a lot of free time at the nudist resort. They made me uncomfortable. Wearing clothes while on the job is one thing, but they seemed like voyeurs. I find it a lot more relaxing when everyone just hangs out naked...

The first time I went to a "resort" was a clothing optional resort, and I chose it specifically because my partner enjoyed tanning naked. I thought it would be the best of both worlds where he could get naked, and I could stay clothed. Eventually I also overcame my inhibitions and lay in the Sun naked, and it was an extremely difficult and uncomforatable thing for me to do.
My preference is still CO, for when I feel comfortable enough to get naked in front of strangers, and be clothed when I am not comfortable being naked in front of strangers, but also so my partner can be naked or not as he chooses to be.ReactReply - MEMemberMay 13, 2017
It seems to me that strict rules are detrimental to recruitment and sustenance of targeted attendance goals.
I agree with nude within certain areas like the pool or spa. I would extend that to certain events as well. There should always be the exception for skin protection--if the guy's shoulders are fried, should he and his wife be forced to leave the pool area until he heals or should a tee shirt be permitted?
Outside of those areas, attendees should be given time to shed their reluctance-if they don't get naked by the end of their first weekend for example; next visit, they should be told that this is a nude venue and they won't be permitted a third visit fully clothed.
All of this shouldn't be left to requiring management to be the iron fist. Diplomatic outreach among existing members can be very effective when done in a friendly manner as long as those members don't harbor a sense of entitlement.

Roy StephensMay 13, 2017I sorta agree with Bruce I guess but to be honest....as long as "I" can be nude, and I'm not offending anyone.....everybody can put clothes on....just don't make me!!! Just sayn :-)

Roy StephensMay 13, 2017Tiredriver, I myself am wanting to take my wife the next time I go to a resort. Believe it or not she has agreed to go....lol.... but if she gets uncomfortable being nude and can't put her clothes on....I'll always have to go alone from then on....a male going alone don't get into many , excuse me, ANY friendly conversations....just sayn

BMay 14, 2017My wife isn't as comfortable being nude as I am. I was nude all day today at my house and in my big garage. We went to the closest resort the last couple years. They encourage nudity, but don't make it a big deal if you're not. They do require you to do a tour the first time you come and require nudity for the tour. My wife was reluctant, but did it. I think it sends a message right from the start, it's a nude resort. But, after the tour, you can do what you want, except the pool area is mandatory nude. My wife is one who says it would be easier being nude if everyone is nude. She has a hard time being nude when some people have clothes or wraps on. She thinks it would be easier if everyone was the same, nude.
But, we are in Minnesota, so the nights can get cold, so they have to leave the option open for clothing when needed.
But, for me, I pack the camper nude, drive the 2 hours nude, and stay nude the whole time we are at the resort. When we leave, I drive home nude and unpack the camper nude.ReactReply - DE

The event took place at a health club and there were enough lockers for everyone. The organizer /president was naked at the door when people checked in. That set the tone and it was clear that everyone should be naked for the few hours that the health club was rented. It was very natural to be naked because everyone else was naked too. This was a while back when the Chicago Sun Club was active.ReactReply - BR

MikeMay 24, 2017I, personally think that any nude venue should have rules in place that you must be nude. If you do not want to then you should not be there. My take is that people who do not get nude at a nudist venue at nothing more than voyeurs. It is the same thing with doctors, you go in to have a complete physical and you do not even have to remove your shirt. I have canceled my physicals because of this and the doctor ask why and I just told them that you can not do a real physical without being naked, Part of the physical is checking to see if molds and warts are changing or if you have contacted any skin or other diseases. If they don't do this then you have not had a physical, just a check up for 5 minutes work they get about $400. I did have one to tell me that due to advanced equipment they did not have to do that anymore, which is a bad joke on them

Her response was "fine, but I will not participate and I am not to be bothered about it". We arrived, I got rid of the clothes while she put on a swimsuit and went out to join the other vacationers, all nude. . We hit it off and we're having a great time and no one bothered her about the suit. On the second day I was playing volleyball in the pool and she was talking with people in the nearby hot tub. At one point she got up and went to the room. I figured she was using the restroom, instead she went in and took off the swimsuit and came back out nude! That was the last we saw of the swimsuit. She has told me that just being accepted, not bothered, and being able to see it for herself is what allowed her to make the decision. We have been to a good number of resorts sinc and live pretty close to Laguna Del Sol where sometimes, like last weekend, she tells me I should go by myself while she is busy or other times we go together. 20 years later...she suggested and wants to go to Laguna Del Sol this weekend to relax and have some fun...nudeReactReply - CHChuckJun 8, 2017
Sunsport Gardens has a sign in the office stating that it's a "nude resort" implying clothing isn't optional. A lot of clothed people for a "nudist resort".
Actually, I don't mind being the minority nudist at their drum circles. Maybe it's the exhibitionist coming out of me!ReactReply - CH
ChrisMay 1, 2020I think it should be no clothing allowed in certain areas like the pool. My wife will lay out nude and go in the pool nude , but when she heads to the bathroom, room or for dinner she always at least wears a wrap

It's worked well for my wife who is not quite ready to just "walk around naked" everywhere at the resort. But she is comfortable with the idea that the pool area is "nude mandatory"; and has no problem getting naked to enter that area to swim, tan, and hot-tub. Everyone else is naked there, so that reduces the "intimidation factor." She does understand though that there is a benefit to not covering up every time she leaves the pool area, or while just hanging out around the resort. She just wants to be able to "work up" to it. The "C/O except the pool area" resort "format" allows for that. As a matter of fact last year she gave it her first shot by momentarily tossing her wrap while we hung out by the lake. This year she has the idea of staying naked to walk between the pool area and the lake. This kind of "gradual progress" would not be possible at a nude-mandatory resort. Yet I feel it's what a lot of women need.ReactReply - ST
StevieLornaMay 3, 2020Im reminded of a conversation we had with a couple on holiday once.
They were telling us about the naturist club they belonged to. They must have had the no singles policy as he said it was 50/50 split men and women.
He said, it was great because you could be naked all day and everywhere within the clubs boundarys. His wife then said. No, you can be naked everywhere I cant. She explained that while she preferred to be nude, all the women in the club all wore sarongs at all times. The only time I can be nude is in the pool, she said.
I asked why this was the case. She explained that it wasnt always like this. It started with one lady never going nude, which made others less confident and soon the club had turned into an only males naked club.
I understand that some people are less confident being nude everywhere all the time, but that can have detrimental effect on everyones freedom to be naturists.

Gordy57May 3, 2020Treat it like an addiction. I have tried to quit smoking on and off for around ten years, thinking I could just cut back never worked. Two years ago I decided I did not like where alcohol was taking me, and just quit buying it. I found that did not work with the cigarettes I needed the nicotine patches. Three months without a cigarette and just quit the nicotine treatment as well ;-) Do I still have cravings for them, HELL yes. But that passes and not having either substance around is mandatory for those times.
Need to start a CA (Clothing Anonymous) group to help those with a clothing addiction ;-)

nudonyMay 3, 2020
I understand that some people are less confident being nude everywhere all the time, but that can have detrimental effect on everyones freedom to be naturists.
And that is a valid point. On the one hand there's the argument that one sarong-clad lady can lead to two, then four, then eight, etc,,, On the other hand there's the argument that mandating complete nudity can lead to newbies never returning and resort stagnancy. It's a delicate balance. Which is why I think nudist socialization is important. If someone shows up on their second or third visit still wearing a sarong most of the time, just interacting with them can help prevent "sarong addiction." My first wife was initially VERY attached to her sarong at first. But upon her second visit at a nudist club, she was befriended by a couple of nudist women. The interaction with these naked women impressed her in a way that made her feel "overdressed." And the next thing I knew my wife had put away her sarong and was "walking around naked" right along with them. Some time later my wife "paid it forward" by approaching a shy, dressed newbie and befriending her. The interaction alleviated the woman's anxiety, and she did end up hanging out naked. That, IMHO, is how you allow for some "clothing-optionality" with it getting out of hand. Just being naked and friendly.ReactReply - ST
StevieLornaMay 3, 2020We probably will never belong to a club (we have none local anyway) and Im in to way advocating a ban on clothing at them.
But I do think that going to a naturist club, then you should expect everyone there to be a naturist.
If you are not confident enough, go to a CO beach until you are.

Which is more my experience.
Right. The only times I've seen or heard of resorts being "overrun with sarongs" are two scenarios: 1 - There is a strong non-nudist resident population that does not get naked. 2 - There are "cliques" of long-time members who feel nudity is optional for them because they have been patrons of the resort for a long time. In setting where a newbie might walk into a gathering of these dressed/covered women, it isn't hard to see why they might immediately feel self-conscious about getting naked. But...that is not representative of most nudist resorts; particularly the more rustic ones. My wife's first visit to a nudist resort; well there were some sarong-clad women walking outside the pool area. But the vast majority of women were naked. The latter made much more of an impression on my wife, who quickly decided to drop the top part of her wrap and be topless; because staying "fully-wrapped" would have made feel too much of an "outsider." And I doubt that another newbie seeing her wearing her wrap - basically like a mini-skirt - would have made them think: "Oh geez; this woman is not fully naked: I'd better keep my sarong on!" Not when "completely naked" was still in the majority. Besides, less than an hour later, unable to resist the appeal of dipping in the pool, my wife would end up naked in the pool area like everyone else.ReactReply - RT
Reuben TitusMay 9, 2020problem with a set temperature for required nudity would be that different people feel the cold at different temps, and 70F when it's cloudy with a good breeze can be too cold, while 60F with no wind and strong sun can feel quite warm. But I do like the Nudity Expected, Clothing Discouraged policy, as it encourages newcomers to feel they're following the rules of the place to be stripped even if everyone isn't. At least it made me feel better about it the first time I went. Once I got used to it it didn't matter any more. Nude was just normal everyday life like when I work my garden back in the woods. Unfortunately the resort is staying closed all year so there will be no vists this year to the close one. We'll wait and see if opportunity presents to go somewhere else.
