Earthquake Preparedness

Not really a nudist topic, but one which cant affect a lot of us. What goes into an earthquake prep kit? What tools would you pack, what modern marvels would you leave behind? I want to make one up, and stash it out in the shed for a just in case precaution.How many of us are prepared to outlast the 72 hours we are told to get ready for?

    Fresh water,warm clothing, medical emergency kit, and a few mars bars for energy.

    If you have camping gear it would be best to store that away from the house. Camping gear would include a tent, sleeping bags, camp stove, rain gear and fire starter. Besides the camping gear you'll need water, food, medical supplies, especially prescriptions, clothing, flashlight, money or valuables to barter with, disposable plates and eating utensils, and this is important, TP.

    The first thing most people will think to grab is their cell phone. In a real emergency cell phone service will probably get knocked out and what service there is, will be over loaded. Remember, you're going to be on your own for 72 hours or more.

    All great answers so far.....I was thinking water, canned food, fuel and cookstove, sleeping bags, first aid kit..matches and lighters. Ropes and Tarps. Axe or hatchet, pocket utility tool, flashlights or glow sticks. Maybe some perishables like juice and treats. A bottle of vodka is useful for medicinal purposes, TP is a modern marvel with many uses, and womens sanitary supplies, which can be SO useful as first aid supplies.Anything I am forgetting or not thinking about?

    Google may be great but it won't help you in an emergency. You need the actual materials on hand. Your computer will probably be down because of no internet connections.

    What I was actually hoping for was personal ideas....what extravagance could you not live without?What luxury item would you insist was a "must have"?

    Best advice is :  DON'T live in a dangerous earthquake zone. Move to a safer place.

    I live in the American Southwest desert region but I guess I should add fishing gear to my kit. If the BIG one hits California, we might be living on the ocean front.

    A fishing kit is a great idea, I like the idea of a supply of coffee and coffee make myself. Maybe dried fruit?

    Any advice on the best type of freeze dried food products?I have had some in the past that was just....nasty. I am told some of the new product is somewhat better?
