Nudists and "textiles" in mixed settings. Do they actually "mix"?

An acquaintance of mine (let's just say friend) did an interesting little "experiment." He threw a "bash" at his home and invited his nudist friends as well as "textile" friends (he has many in both worlds). He reported a very balanced mix; along the lines of 1/3 nude, 1/3 dressed, and 1/3 partially disrobed/lightly clothed. But he soon realized that the "nudes" were segregating themselves as a group; and a few even reported being uncomfortable with the "textile" presence. The "textiles", on the other hand, did not seem to have a problem with the "nudes." He expressed some surprise and disappointment with the "nudes'" not mingling very well with the "textiles." I was not surprised. My limited experience with "mixed settings" would suggest that nudists can be quite "lukewarm" to the idea of "intimate" interaction with dressed people. I've had a discussion about it with my wife, who described the idea as "being on display." That would indicate some sense of vulnerability when naked in front of someone who is not. I've seen it where the dressed person(s) in a nude setting was/were ignored or avoided; or the nudists became self-conscious when approached by a dressed person(s). Demonstrating "naked confidence" while interacting with a "textile" is often recognized as a good thing; as it demonstrates that naturalness of nudity. I've often told the story of the "reluctant and fully clothed" wife at a get-together who was ignored/avoided; and it was because my (then) wife demonstrated "naked confidence" and friendliness towards her that she eventually decided to get naked too. But that was a one-on-one interaction. Even my (then) wife would have hesitated to approach agroupof dressed individuals. I'm curious about other people's thoughts and experiences on this.
Labels are with us and ingrained from an early age. I don't believe that will ever change, but if you are speaking strictly of derogatory labels only, more people seem to be aware of how hurtful they can be. There is a concerted effort to not use them, but in that attempt an new one is used in its place. It may be more acceptable, but is still a label.
This is a good point - by labeling themselves as non label people those who say they eschew labels are actually creating a new label. Akin to anarchists who create grouping and association that are ordered in order dismantle the existing order. Human being have and always will tend towards labels and categorization it is how the social life is established or maintained. The trick is to use labels that are not negative derogatory or limiting in a way that negatively impacts another.
Personally Ive not been in a setting where nudist and textiles is a pleasant feeling in a setting. To much of a non understanding I spose of each other about nudity. I read enough about one spouse is apposed and the other is sneaking around to get naked time in. I do feel for those in that position no doubt. I too lived in a world once where naked was met with intolerance and punishment when "caught" or things discovered.
Luckily for me, my wife is fine with me being nude at home even though she rarely is, Also knows I go to clothing optional beaches.

Somehow this thread has shifted to "labels". There are those who want no part of being labeled. I am married to one of those types other than she is good when I tell someone she is an artist. That is the only thing. There are folks that are not comfortable being boxed in by being described and labeled.

My wife has been a home nudist for 25 yrs, socially for 10. We do many things with our nudist friends and to this day she will tell at least me she is not a nudist. I understand where she is coming from...she does not like being labeled.

It was easy to get off of the original question when the answers suggested that mixing is not a good choice. My experience has been that I have been the only one nude while my companions remained clothed. In every case I asked permission to strip.

I can only speak for myself but I would prefer to keep the peace among all. Thats always easier said than done. How about having two parties instead of one? A good friend of mine had a big wedding party at church to celebrate his 40th ( I think) and everyone enjoyed themselves. Before it got too late, he announced that my wife and I would be hosting a reception at our home for them and please come & enjoy yourselves. I think about half the original group of about 50+ showed up. Basically, the couples inner circle of friends. Could you set up the initial party as textile and the later one as nude? I think the attendees would self segregate and everyone enjoys the evening. I dont know if it would work for you but ours was a great time.

@Andy, my reading of your situation sounds like it will probably turn out just fine. My only slight concern would be if they decide to 'demonstrate', but if they are not too immature, they should be okay, especially if they're confident the textiles will leave first. :-D
