The name makes it seem like it's what you'd wear to swim the fastest, and it makes sense seeing they're tight briefs. But since I stopped wearing them for exercise it seems I'm the fastest swimming naked, not to mention I'm more comfortable.

I'm guessing that they're named that way because they make you faster than the old-style swim trunks. I'm not a great swimmer, but even I could feel the drag from those baggy things, especially the ones with the longer legs.

I know they have the ones that are tight fitting shorts but since i own a pair of speedo types already I'm not going to purchase any other in the near future.

I remember speedos - uncomfortable and confining. I was on a high school swim team. Looked silly and since everyone was faster than me I ended up dropping. Much rather just go nude also.

I used to wear speedos frequently but after I stopped wearing underwear I found that they were too confining,
so I got rid of them. I now have just one pair of short, lightweight swim shorts for when I can't swim nude. A little more drag but being less constrained is worth it.

Rarely wear it when I am not in the water so I can't say much about the tan through aspect.
Lighter weight and quicker drying so much more comfortable. Kiniki seemed itchy but Cooltan is soft and smooth.

I wore speedos in high school for diving to try and reduce the splash. Swimmers wore speedos, swim caps and shaved all other body hair in order to gain an extra fraction of a second.
I havent worn them since collage and now wear the baggy board short type when clothing is not optional.

Wore cooltan shorts for snorkelling when on holiday in Vanuatu last year, thought I would see if they worked, I think they did. But I also wore speedo's too and still do when I do swim training and wandering on a public beach. You need to be selective and get a brand that fits right and is not squashy.

I fortunately have husband quality control which by the way I do appreciate. If Luann is laughing I know go recheck myself before heading out the door. Even the word Speedo brings a laugh to her pretty face. To each there own but Im not about to have my wife be embarrassed or laugh at me so I just roll out to the swim in the nude. :D

Has anyone tried Cooltan swim briefs?
I would think that the soft lightweight material would minimize the confinement feeling while the brief style provides maximum freedom of leg motion, but would like the opinion of someone who has actually tried them.

I've not tried Cooltan swim briefs and the Kiniki ones look wrong on me (or so my wife says) so I wear Kiniki tan-through tangas which, to me, feel the next best thing to naked for swimming.

I've had 4 different Kiniki styles. Tanga and micro seemed too minimal to wear when I couldn't be naked. Full cut brief was too confining. Didn't keep any of them long. Trunks were OK so I kept them until they wore out. Haven't replaced them. Asking about the Cooltan briefs because I considering getting that instead.

I dove in high school as well. I found that the speedos didn't protect me if landing wrong in the water so I bought one a little bigger than a speedo but was like a girdle and gave a lot of support for those awkward dives.

Not what I thought they would be. I like them but just not the material I thought they would be.

It's just a brand name that have become a style over time, no different to zoggs or funky trunks but those names don't have the same panache. Speedos were what Australian life savers wore at the beach, their swim team adopted them and it's gone from there. I wear swim briefs all the time for lap swimming, they are the next best thing to being naked when you can't be. Light and minimal and not hiding much.

Cooltan swim brief arrived yesterday.
Comfortable. Smooth, soft material. Not too confining.
It doesn't have a drawstring.
For anyone that has one, have you ever had trouble with it slipping down during active swimming?

Speedo started selling swimsuits when attitudes were way more conservative than today, and bathing costumes were likely to be made of wool. In comparison they were sleek and brief. (Not too brief, Bondi's swimsuit inspectors may order you off the beach!) I think the original ones were a trunk style while 3" sides were common when I was a kid.

The Cool-Tan and other tan-through fabrics certainly feel more open than conventional fabrics, but nowhere near nude or even fishnet in the breeze or the water.
The big advantage is their quick drying which again is somewhere between nude & conventional fabrics. Tanning is also at some midpoint, so I don't expect to make great progress in that department beneath the fabric. Perhaps if I wore them for longer I'd get three levels of tan: exposed skin, under the fabric and under the elastic. That said, I now generally wear Skinz loose shorts in a mesh fabric on my way to the CO part of the beach and move the band up and down a little periodically.
The visual opaqueness does vary with the pattern. Areolae, nipples and butt cracks may be noticeable on close inspection depending on where the fabric pattern falls. Not sure about the penis as I cannot see myself from the correct angle.
One nice side effect is when emerging from the water in the sunlight, for a moment each of those tiny holes holds water for a spectacular glistening contoured sight. Works best on a one piece of an obliging female.
Finally, the fabric is delicate and is not likely to last as long as other fabrics.
