My fellow nudist, I have been a member on and off for 12 years, recently I have been socializing in the chatroom with other nudist like myself who have practice the lifestyle at home. I had a situation where I was caught naked by my maintenance because of miscommunication between me and leasing office that brought to my attention to this topic. Is it ethical to be nude when a third/second party that is provided services in your home?I have communicated to various nudist with different background on the subject, some was very strongly against it. They believe I shouldn't force my lifestyle onto someone that is provided services into my home because I would like to continue getting services through them and keep the professionalism. I have come across some nudist believe it's their right in the own home to be comfortable in their own skin when services is being provided for them. They have shared stories of their experience and no retaliation has happened before. I want to hear your opinion on the subject and if you ever had services been done in your home while you are in a nude or you have quickly put on clothes while they provided services. **Services meaning various services like cable company, plumbing, maintenance or Heating/AC services had to come to your to fix something in your home.

I am not intentionally nude for service providers. I generally wear shorts, but occasionally just a towel. I never bother with a shirt for these people in warm weather,
I have been caught twice by a meter reader and once by our pool serviceman when I didn't expect them.
I suspect that in both of those jobs, occasionally seeing nude customers is an occupational hazard (or fringe benefit).

My belief is that you should show respect for others and they should in turn show respect for you. Don't make it an issue of just nudity or your lifestyle. The service person just wants to do their job and chances are they don't care about your pants one way or the other as long as their work isn't interfered with. From a host perspective, it's likely best to get out their way and not distract them, and that goes for playing loud music, hovering naked around them or cooking stinky food. Just let them do their work and don't make it about you.

If someone comes to my houseunannounced, I make no apologies for being nude and I don't get dressed. I used to greet appliance repairmen in the nude without letting them know in advance. That sometimes caused an awkward moment or two. I stopped doing that. Now, I let them know in advanced. "I'm a nudist and will be nude while you're here. Is that a problem for you?" Since I started doing that, there has been no awkward moments at their arrival. No one has ever refused to provide service. I have ordered pizza a few times while at a friend's house, and added to the deliver instruction that I'm a nudist. When the delivery driver arrives. He knows what to expect and it's never been a problem. For parcel delivery, I just answer the door nude (or I'm already nude outside) and that's not a problem either. I get the idea that most delivery people have already seen nude people and just don't care.

I had an insurance adjuster out to the house many years ago. I didn't tell him I was a nudist before he got here. Didn't phase him a bit. He was here for about an hour and a half. We were in various rooms of the house looking at things and talking. Also walked completely around the outside of the house. He never gave any indication that he even noticed I was nude.

Twice, I've had a repairman out to fix something on my well. Didn't tell him the first time -- but no problem at all. Acted like he didn't even notice that I was nude. Second time (over a year later), same thing. Not there to comment on my fashion sense.

Professionally as a business owner and service provider I learned very early on I have a bullseye on my head for anything someone wants to invent/accuse and bring their TV vulture attorney's, file suit or just they ramble unfounded gossip at the coffee shop. Hell I had an ongoing two year lawsuit by a guy I didn't even know that went clear to the State Appellate court. The $$$ was staggering for my Atty's for some dumb idiot and his TV lawyer looking for a windfall.

No one in my shop could really careless about someone being nude but these days but it's not so safe for me or my people. Obviously I could give a rip if someone was naked the thing on my mind is get in, get it fixed and get moving to the next call. Should we walk in on someone and it has happened you excuse yourself and say you will return later. Employees are to report it to my office so it can be logged.
Rockdad;Suppose you are alone with any of these? What if it was an 18 year old male or female? What if it was a 16 year old male or female? What if it was a 12 year old male or female?Would you be afraid of a false accusation so someone can threaten to sue and force you to pay money to make it go away?
It counts for any age. Accusations is all it takes now. Should the property be owned by a land owner they are immediately notified. In days gone by it was just a whoops please excuse me and that was it.
Fortunately (or not) the last incident was a few years ago was at our good friends house by an employee and caught his wife in an undressed state. This guy is no one to mess with when it comes to his wife. It took me a couple talks with him to cool him out instead of going atomic. Don't mess with a Vet that killed for a living I say that has a jealous hair trigger. Damn good thing he loves us !

That progression of younger ages you asked about gave me the ever lasting creeps.
The rare times there was a walk in was when no one was suppose to be home, didn't answer the door knock, and we were provided a key to key in.

Living at a nude resort has the added benefit of the people who do maintenance, deck building, etc. know they will see nudists when they drive through the gates. That said, when we have professionals here doing such things we always put something on, showing the respect they deserve to others who don't necessarily share the lifestyle. Some have joined in and lost some clothing but most of the time they do the job and go on their way. No one with any common sense should want to creep out a HVAC tech only to have their servicing done wrong because they were trying to hurry up and get away from the nudity. I suppose I should mention the tech who was so intrigued by the nude scene that he/she did the job badly on purpose in order to have to be called back on another service call to repair the issue again (that scenario was made up by me, a guy who wants EVERYONE to be nude).

If we don't respect non-nudists in these situations, it only helps to strengthen the negative preconceptions textiles seem to commonly believe, such as that all nudists are exhibitionists and all that nude resorts are full of sexually-overt people. Our genitals may be showing but we're not using them! Anyone reading this post knows better, hopefully, or at least now they do.

It only hurts those of us who actually are.

This is not a legal issue and shouldn't be thought of one. If someone does not want to see me naked, or hear me whistling out of tune, all they have to do is say so, and something might be done about it. People ask if I mind them smoking cigarettes, talking on phones or taking pictures of things when I'm nude nearby. Not a problem. If me being naked is a problem, they say so and I can go and find some shorts or just leave them to do whatever they are in my home to do. How about a boxer fighting another boxer? if you fight like that, it's a legal permission sort of thing as being hit by someone else, is usually an assault, but because fighting is about being hit, it's never an assault but an expected event due to the nature of the contest and the fact that both fighters take the same known risk of being hurt.

What about those of us who might not be so naturally handsome and good looking? If i haven't washed and shaved, or brushed my teeth or hair, i probably look a bit wild myself. If a tradesperson or a friend calls at my house, am I to panic and find a large paper bag to slip over my head? I don't think so. If any handsome chap came to my door with a bag over his head, i'd probably think i was about to be mugged and hit him hard with a cricket bat. if it happened to be a lawyer at my door, he'd probably appreciate an ambulance being called rather swiftly.

In most states in the US, you are legally permitted to be nude in your own home regardless of who might be there. Arkansas is an obvious exception to that rule. You are not legally obligated to get dressed. If you do not get dressed, the service person is not obligated to stay. If someone shows up unannounced, I don't get dressed. I don't apologize for my lack of clothing. In fact, I don't even mention it; nude is normal in my house. Recently had a friend over. He needed to go to the emergency room. I called 911. When the first guy got there, I opened the door. No comment about my lack of clothing. [There is a sign on the door stating that this is a nudist household. It's NOT a warning or caution.] "I'm here to see [friend's name]. May I come in?" "Yes, certainly. He's right here." When the actual ambulance arrived, the first responder guy said, "I saw the sign on your door. I don't want to do or say anything that would be offensive, but one of the people on the ambulance is a woman. Would you be willing to put some sorts on?" "No. I will not get dressed in my own home; it's a religious issue." [And that's the truth.] "She is a medical professional and it really should not matter. [He nodded ascent to this.] However, I am willing to sit down, if that will help." He said, "That'll work." So, I sat down while the ambulance people were in the house. But, honestly, how could simple nudity be shocking or offensive to ANY medical professional?

"No. I will not get dressed in my own home; it's a religious issue." [And that's the truth.] Religious issue? Are you an Adamite? I don't know of any other formal religion that brings nudism to the story, though I haven't done the research to know the score. I also didn't think there were any Adamites left in the world. Are you attempting a revival of the order?

If it's a female nudist homeowner there will likely be no problem, on the other hand, an old guy like me might never see service from any company providing said service in my home again. I don't think it's a legal issue, at least it shouldn't be.

I've changed how I handle this.
When we ask them to perform services for us in our home, we should always tell them first or announce that fact that we are nude, before you open the door and let them in. Let them make the choice if they are okay with it.
I used to not let service people know in advance that I was a nudist and would be nude in the house. This was almost never a problem. Almost all of the service people recognized they were there to do a job and did it without regard to my lack of artificial adornment. There were a couple of times when it became an issue. However, a while back I started telling them I was a nudist when I scheduled the appointment and explained that I would be nude -- giving them the chance to decide whether they wanted my money. So far, no one has refused and there's no surprise at the door. As far as delivery drivers and unannounced visitors are concerned, I just open the door like anyone else would. Yes, I understand that textiles suffer with a sexual perversion. But that's something they need to discuss with their mental health professional and they should not be foisting their sexual perversions on others.

Depending where one lives, there might be laws regarding exhibitionism, indecent exposure, etc. What is indecent and shameful about the human body is beyond us but in our society body shaming, etc. is the unfortunate fact!!

As far as I know, within the US, only Arkansas extends the concepts of exhibitionism and indecent exposure to inside your own home.
Depending where one lives, there might be laws regarding exhibitionism, indecent exposure, etc. What is indecent and shameful about the human body is beyond us but in our society body shaming, etc. is the unfortunate fact!!
I had to chuckle when reading this , our pest control was due and usually get a text on the way . While I was reading the responses got an alert someone at the front door and look up to see our pest guy, I had a robe on since it was chilly, just went to the door and told home to go ahead with the service. Just found it humorous about services showing up while nude or barely covered.

My guess is, he really doesn't care.
Could be he's truly fine with it or okay with it because he doesn't want to jeopardize his annual Christmas Bonus! LOL
I've asked several service/repair men whether they cared that I was nude. All of them I asked said they didn't care -- total non-issue. Those that did care said something -- no need to ask. Those who don't care don't even give any indication that the notice that I'm nude. They don't avert their gaze (staring at the ceiling or floor or wall or out the window), stumble for words, or hesitate to call me over to look at something or so they can explain something to me. I was once on hands and knees shoulder to shoulder with the chimney sweep while he was showing me an issue inside the stove and explaining what needed to be done. I walked all through the house and all around the outside of the house with an insurance adjuster. This was before I began letting people know I was a naturist before they showed up. When I opened the door, he provided no indication that he even noticed I was nude. Didn't hesitate to come into the house. Didn't hesitate to stand right next to me while we surveyed the damage and looked for more. Walked in front of me, walked beside me, walked behind me, just as he would any other customer. Talked business and carried on light conversation in between. I've never asked, but it seems obvious that I'm not the only nude person they've encountered in their jobs. They are there to do a job and honestly have no concern about my state of dress. A while back, I decided to let service/repair men know in advance. None has ever refused to come to my house and work on something because I was nude.
