To be totally clear nudity is legal in UK given some restrictions which for recreational naturism are always met.

This is all covered in documents agreed with the police by British Naturism (BN).

Sites:
https://www.bn.org.uk/files/file/739-legal-guides-public-place-naturism/
https://library.college.police.uk/docs/nudity.pdf

See the first two columns on page two of the Police College document.

Actions which are described as passive (sunbathing, walking, cycling,...) and the nude person is not intending to cause distress are legal and require the call handler to tell the complainer that no action is needed. It is not a matter of the complainer being distressed - it is what the nude person intends that matters.

Too often call handlers do not know the law and pass it on to police and then the Police don't know the law.

Until these errors by police are called out, we will not get our rights to be nude in these passive situations.

BN campaigns tirelessly and defends members successfully. Police do tend to make things up and fail to apply the Police College guidelines.

    Oh damn, that's super cool!
I mean, not the call handlers or cops not knowing the law part, just that you all have that ability.

US is so damn far behind on so many things. Probably will stay that way beyond my lifespan. So many people here are so backwards (to put it mildly) in their world views and want everyone else to be just as terrible as they are.

Ye i have done some reaserch into this and it seems its perfectly legal as long as it doesnt cause offence. Which is a bit ambiguous tbh as its down to the individual as to what is offensive. Overall not bad though, seen a few guys on here who cycle naked through towns and country lanes with minimal issues so thats a hood sign.

The trouble is the victim will be co horst in to saying they were shocked.
    Police - were you shocked
Victim well no, but it's not something you see every day
    Police so you were startled
    Victim well sort of
    Police so you were shocked
    Victim well yeah............
but if you were dressed like a clown the same would apply...........
If the victim does not like what you do your nicked - fact

One officer told me that he would arrest me anyway. Sometimes its not just about what the book law says, but the attitude of mind of the individual officers concerned. Give individuals the power and in most cases it always turns out to be abusive. I never could get my head round how anyone could say the human body is indecent. It is a design that we get no say in and everybody is the same, male and female.

It's not down to what the individual finds offensive, you simply being naked is something they can find offensive, but under the Law simple nudity isn't breaking any law. They are referring to you standing there with an erection, or openly masturbating, thrusting said erections at people to cause an actual offence, having sex in public etc. Any person simply being offended by you just being nude means that you are NOT breaking the Law, again, as long as you are not being lewd and shaking your penis at them to piss them off, no Law is being broken. One person's word that they might be offended or find basic nudity distasteful, is not means for you to be arrested and the cops should know this, which is why it's worth carrying a copy of these pages with you when you are going to get naked at a location. If said person tries to take pictures of you nude to report you to the cops, THEY are breaking the Law by invading your privacy and trying to prove their point that you were doing something other than being nude. Many people can't tell the difference between a normal sized penis to on that they might think is semi erect, we guys all know the difference ! Some men are just luckier than others in what they have. The guidelines I have just downloaded are great. For example, if I was sunbathing nude in my own garden and a neighbour didn't like it, they could call the cops and try their BS to get me arrested, but when you show them the guidance from their own Police Force, there is nothing they can do.

Someone could be offended at you farting in public, doesn't mean you are going to get arrested for it ! Same goes for basic nudity, it does not matter if said person acts all offended or startled, shocked, as long as you are not being lewd or waggling your woggle at them so as to cause actual offence, then you are free and clear to be naked as and when you want to.

It is all about what the Book of Law says, otherwise there would be no need for it ! It does not matter what one fool cop might think, he still has to work within the framework of the Law, that is what his job is, upholding the Law, not making up rules as he/she goes along. They have no damn right to abuse you in any way, shape or form. Cops don't have any power as such, they are there to follow the rule of the Law and the only power as such is to arrest someone if they have committed a crime, for which Basic Nudity, is NOT a crime. If they did arrest you, then you have the Law itself to back you up on the rules, the police guidance applies to the specific area's in which you live. If you are naked in your garden getting a tan, there is nothing a cop or your neighbour can do to stop you. They would then have to provide proof of what they might say you were supposedly doing, according to them, but they then forget that they are breaking the law by invading your privacy and possibly taking pictures of you without your permission, which is against the law. Just someone saying he scratched his balls is not a lewd act, we all have to scratch something that itches, even if it's the meat and two veg !! As long as you are not openly jerking yourself off, no law is being broken.

Its the same with nudity, outside a naturist event you wont see naked people in the street.

Thank you for sharing this vital information. Its crucial that everyone understands: in the UK, nudity in public is legal under specific conditions, especially when the activity is passive (like sunbathing, walking, or cycling) and there is no intent to cause distress.

British Naturism (BN) has done excellent work collaborating with police and producing clear guidelines to protect these rights. Unfortunately, misunderstandings among call handlers and some police officers continue to create unnecessary problems for naturists.

Education and awareness are key. The more we share resources like the BN legal guides and Police College document, the stronger our community becomes in defending the right to enjoy naturism responsibly and legally.

Lets keep spreading knowledge and supporting BNs tireless efforts.

However going into the bn.org.uk and clicking the police college link gives three downloadable documents relating to the differing countries of the UK. This was worthwhile.

How could nudity be illegal? How could it be illegal to exist in our natural state? The UK law makes perfect sense. It's illegal to go out of your way to offend/harass someone. The US law however is messed up.
Is it totally illegal to be naked in the US or does it vary from state to state ?
Varies from state to state. Vermont and Oregon have no state laws prohibiting nudity, but some municipalities in both states do. Florida permit nudity on private property, even if visible to people in public places or neighbors, also driving nude. Nudity is permitted in backcountry areas of national parks and forests.

US Law is always complicated because of the status of American U.S. Federal States inside the United States.

The Law of the U.S. is really is a sorry mess in some places due to the factionalists in some places.

Right now the Federal Government under Trump is really being pernicious right now.

A lot of this is by the Electoral College's design and the Ambiguous nature of both The Federal Supreme Court of the United States and also several provisions of the United States CODIFIED Constitution of 1787 (U.S.C, all written constitutional aritcles.)

The Interprative nature of the Supreme Court also plays somewhat of a role whenever those powers are abused by legalist strict constructionist Far-Right Justices on the Bench Of The Supreme Court (Federal) Of The United States.

Plus GW Bush the Younger and the Patriot Act made unwarranted police intimidation easier under the War On Terror, first with people in Wars Abroad, then First Trump Cabinet did the same with Foreign Residents in the USA, then the same under Second Trump Cabinet with USA Citizens of All Kinds and all other people.

The USA is not really safe like it was in earlier times for nudists, like it was about 12 years ago in 2013 under the Barrack Obama Cabinet.

Now, it seems Republicans in elected offices are really trying to intimidate "Different People" and "Immigrants" regardless, including some amount of the USA Citizens who happen to be "NUDISTS" inside BLUE DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED CITIES including Chicago and DC, as both cities are under a horrifying ILLEGAL occupation by THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT right now.

Yes. Good to see the use for looking this up.

For resources about British Naturism check out the British Naturism organization and their website:

    https://www.bn.org.uk/

All these links are helpful for Americans and British people and other people visiting these regions.

Some of the wikipedia links you might have to independently verify, but much of the wikipedia links should be reliable.
