What do you think about tan lines?

Okay.. First, I have been a nudist for nearly 40yrs.   I'm pretty open and understanding of all the different attitudes and cultural issues in different places.

BUT, recently, I was at a nude swimmming hole and someone said to me that having tan lines shows I'm not a real NUDIST ?!   Now I admit I  "propagate" my tan lines becuase I am a blond haired male over ... errr... lets say  35,  and am usually white as the driven snow which  I live in 9 months of the year.   If I had NO tan lines, people would think I had never been in the sun before.  So I like to have a little bit of a tan line around my middle.   Not farmer tan lines, but regular swimmer tan lines...

So does that make me any less of a nudist?    I was slightly insulted after having thought about it for a day.  Though it could have been too much sun on the brain that day.   Thanks for your comments.

Anyone who judges someones level of nudism due to their tan lines or lack of, is really a little insecure about their acceptance of nudism!! If you want tan lines...wear them proudly!! Being a nudist has only to do with you!!!

I guess because I don't take my rings off when I'm outside, thus causing tan lines, I'm less of a nudist....NOT!   Ignore the ignoramuses!

I'ts already been said, tan lines making you less of a nudist?  No way.  Just means you've been out in the sun wearing something.  I got my first set of tan lines this year by going to a ball game and sitting on the bleachers.  Does this make me not a nudist?
To me being a nudist is a mindset.  You prefer to be nude, for whatever reason you are that way.  Nobody can be nude 100% of the time.  But oh wouldn't that be nice if we could.  I'd love to be able to mow my yard in the nude, but the law doesn't allow that.  So should I cover up completely?  Of course not.
    Tan lines happen.  Always will.

Tanlines are the mark of a pragmatist, no tanlines are the mark of a lucky man/woman.

Gee, I guess that person would think I'm not a real nudist because I've only done it at home for the last 40 years... I have no tan lines, because I tan all over. The joys of a tanning salon. :)

I'm relatively new to the world of organized nudity, but I kind of thought it was about being comfortably naked in your own skin, not about judging someone else's body and tan lines or lack thereof.
How many people would have the nerve to be seen like this ?
If there were no other practical choice, I would !!

    It isn't about being seen.
Given the time, I might paint all sorts of stuff to get weird tan line patterns, justas a conversation starter.

I think that guy in post #11 looks like that Amway salesman that polished one of my shoes for free as a demo, then made my buy the polish to do the other shoe.

I personally don't like them, but due to some circumstance I have had them. Like if I was away from home and was in a warm climate where nudity wasn't possible I will still go in the sun.

I don't like them especially on me, but if you have to wear clothes or even shoes/sandals while outside or driving a vehicle, you are likely to have them.

One of two nudists with whom I've been acquainted over the years, wear "something" if only a watch to see the darkness of their tan.

Tanlines are ok and can be very sexy but I try not to have them.  I love it when someone says, "why don't you have any tanlines"

As said, tan lines are unimportant, many of us can not get out in the sun due to schedules or locations. Some even prefer to not gat in the sun for UV exposure reasons, doesn't make them less of a nudist.

They showed their own ignorance by their statement. They might also judge  your worth by your car so forget it. I am nude probably 70% of most days but I also swim train at a fitness center so guess what...some tan lines. I now wear CoolTan solar tan-thru swim suits and shorts but it can't stop some lines. Enjoy yourself and remember it is your opinion of you that really counts.

To reduce the risk of tanlines, always make sure you wear clothing at different lengths, wether it be shorts, socks, tee shirt, or whatever. I even move my wrist watch up and down a little, so to avoid unsightly lines.

Tan lines are an unfortunate reality. The person who said real nudists don't have tanlines must be very lucky to have so many opportunities to tan in the buff.

Just like that person who wants to lose just 10 more pounds before the class reunion, I fear that I will never completely be without tan lines.

So, be happy with what you got and it will lead to greater happiness.
