May 20, 2012Okay.. First, I have been a nudist for nearly 40yrs. I'm pretty open and understanding of all the different attitudes and cultural issues in different places.
BUT, recently, I was at a nude swimmming hole and someone said to me that having tan lines shows I'm not a real NUDIST ?! Now I admit I "propagate" my tan lines becuase I am a blond haired male over ... errr... lets say 35, and am usually white as the driven snow which I live in 9 months of the year. If I had NO tan lines, people would think I had never been in the sun before. So I like to have a little bit of a tan line around my middle. Not farmer tan lines, but regular swimmer tan lines...
So does that make me any less of a nudist? I was slightly insulted after having thought about it for a day. Though it could have been too much sun on the brain that day. Thanks for your comments.

rolie100Aug 25, 2012I try to avoid them, but sometimes it happens when you are not able to be totally naked. Not every country I visit is so liberal as The Netherlands

marko167Sep 5, 2012What an idiot! I hate it when people start the whole, "I'm a better xxxxxxx than you because xxxxxxx". People are different and their experiences and opportunities are different. I have no tan lines because I live 10 minutes from my local nude beach and go there every day. If I didn't have this beach nearby, I would still go to beach every day with the kid and only get to go tom a nudie place at weekends.
Don't waste a moment of your life considering that person's opinion.ReactReply - MA
MarkSep 5, 2012Hey tanlines just let you know its time to get some quality airbath time as Ben Franklin would say. My feet get spots on them from wearing crocs. A few hours sailing nude and all is even again. So what does this have to do with being a nudist?

Having grown up in an era when UV rays were not considered as deadly as Gamma rays I have always felt healthy when I have a deep tan. Living here in South Carolina, we have many days, even during the winter, when it is quite comfortable to tan on the patio. As a result I am able to maintain a head to toe tan almost year around.
Not all nudists have that luxury, of course, and having tan lines certainly does not make them less of a nudist.
My wife does not share my enthusiasm for nudism or tanning and now in September she looks as if she had spent the summer above the Arctic Circle. Since I often visit nude beaches and nudist clubs without her I feel that my tan identifies me as a genuine nudist, immediately, to the nudists that do not know me. With my tan, I am properly dressed for the occasion.

JonathanSep 7, 2014Well that is interesting. It doesn't seem like those would be very comfortable, sticking to the bottom of your foot. It seems like it would feel as if you stepped into something undesirable. lolReactReply - KE
We have tan lines when we are in Asia coz there are no nudist beaches or resorts. However we tend to loose the tanlines once we get back to good old OZ.ReactReply - FU

Ross AngusSep 11, 2014I always prefer no tan lines. It means that if you wear one type of swimwear (or whatever) for the beach, and a different pair for the local swimming baths, the areas of tan and non-tan would never match up. and there would be that "white" zone which to me doesn't look good.
For quite a few years when tanning on a beach, (and before I came across CO beaches) I would wear different sizes of speedos or thongs on different days and either pulled them up or rolled them down to get at least some sun on the non-normally-visible areas. Definitely a lot of effort and I was glad when we now always look for the naturist areas.
I remember one time getting changed in the locker room, and I was wearing thong underwear, one of my mates piped up saying, "Someone's got a good tan!" as there were no white zones to see. (I replied that is was a great beach to go to!)
For me, people with white zones simply don't get much opportunity to strip off completely but are happy to do so on a CO area so I wouldn't say they weren't nudists.ReactReply - HA
HalfSep 11, 2014
I can't stand having tan lines but unfortunately I do. I ride my motorcycle a lot and wear gloves and a sleeveless shirt when I do. So I have tan lines at my wrists and upper arms. I no longer have anywhere to go to sunbathe in the nude so I have a little bit of a tan line around my waist as well. Though this summer I didn't spend too much time outside in the sun shirtless.
LOL - my "motorcycle tan" is usually just a tan circle at my wrists. I usually wear a long sleeve t-shirt and pull the sleeves down into my gloves. The gloves are secured with a Velcro strap so all that gets sun is the small circle between glove and strap. We call it "Mickey Mouse Hands".ReactReply - RA
ravensflyinnowSep 11, 2014I seek out the shade pool or beachside.

SteveSep 12, 2014I mostly stay fully covered - including gloves and a big hat - in the middle of the day, but get a little sun here and there, mostly naked. I wouldn't dream of stranding myself on a sunny beach between about 10 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. I lack the patience or the will to lie still working on the color of my skin; I'm a little tan on my shoulders and back. So no tan lines, but no all-over tan, either.ReactReply
