Sunridge and Solair in CT

  I woundn't waste my time going to Sunridge as single visitor. They have to many restrictions for single visitors as to where you can on the grounds.  Just 5 miles to the east over the CT stateline is Dyer Woods Nudist Campground in Foster RI. Its a good alternative as Solair tends to get fill up weekends during the summer.

  I went to Solair for a few days in Sept. this year for the first time as a single male. I found them to be quite friendly and the grounds were clean and well kept. The pool sparkled and the hot tub and showers delightful. I was excepted yet I did find limited conversation mostly because I was new, alone and needed to get known by the members. I will defiantly be visiting again come this spring.

  I went to Solair a lot this summer. Even stayed a weekend in one of the cabins. Hope to see some of you there next year.

  Big problem w/SunRidghe is that day visitors have to leave before 6 PM.

  Two interesting facts you have mentioned about Sunridge. First, we were encouraged to walk around the entire grounds to see the tennis courts, etc. Second, I didn't realize an exception to the 6 pm rule was if you were invited to stay by a "permanent" resident. Neither of these facts were explained to us.

  I didn't realize that you were from Hartford. I've mapquested (and traveled to) both resorts (Solair and Sunridge) from Hartford, and Solair is shorter in distance and in time to get to. I'm not trying to be negative about Sunridge because we did enjoy our visit there and probably will return. Sunridge does not do as much as Solair to encourage day visitors. That may be because it's seasonal and privately owned or from some issues that are unknown to us.

  Kar, I always put Hartford up as my town although I am South of Hartford. As I get to know people here, I usually will tell them my exact town but don't see the reason to put it up on the public information.  Nothing I stated in my post about Sun Ridge is untrue, and I stress that it suits my purpose for going because all I like to do is relax, get some sun, play some pool volleyball and it is closer for me to get to than Solair.  Notice that I am not downing any other resorts, just saying that I like Sun Ridge for what it has and have gotten to know a bunch of people there too.  Btw, I don't play tennis so it doesn't matter to me, but because of the way that the grounds are laid out, the Tennis courts are at the far end of the property and in order to get to them, you have to pass through all of the RV and permanent sites which to me is understandable why the owners choose to protect the members on this.

  I'm not trying to put a downer on Sunridge. We enjoyed the relaxation there. As I mentioned, we were encouraged to explore the grounds, and specifically the tennis court area. Maybe because it was a weekday, they felt it wouldn't be disturbing all the unoccupied sites. Enjoy your day.

  Never been to Sunridge but I join others in promoting Solair. Planned to go this year, but it will have to be in the Fall.

  I haven't heard how Solair, or Sunridge or Dyer Woods for that matter, made out after the storm last weekend. Was there much damage and are they still able to finish out the season? I heard that Sandy Terraces on the Cape survived OK.

  I'll let you all know about Solair because I will be heading there this coming Monday. They haven't cancled my reservation for the week so I'm going to assume all is well there.
