It is not my intent to offend, or sound perverted, or actually trying to be humorous! I have heard others curious about "why" this is as it is. Maybe I have asked too many men and only a few women. Either way, I have not heard a decent description of an answer yet.
Maybe some of you ladies on this Forum can give me an idea how this came to be! Men I have asked have no clue. Webster's dictionary is really no help in this mystery. It is no real big deal, but surely it is enough of a "mislabeling" that some of you might question this and wonder! It is one of those "little bitty" things that a lot of us (that I do anyway) have a hangup about and this is one of those "bitty" things that continue to dwell in my mind.....sort of a "Pet Peeve"!
Anyway, I thought this might be a different conversation piece that maybe would bring a chuckle, some curiousity maybe, or maybe even a real answer! I repeat that it is not intended to be anything other than a conversation piece with a different aspect! Please understand, no disrespect intended! Anybody want to tackle an answer???

It's all started just for fun, whether a joke, humorous, or sarcasm!Let's just say a bra relates to "twice as nice" and panties are plural because of the "s"on the end! Maybe we could even say it like this......pant-tease!

LOL! From now on we WILL be pronouncing it that way.

Jen, SunSand, and the rest of you ladies that have commented......Thanks for the positive remarks! I was hoping no one would be offended when I hesitated to start the bra and panties topic! All in fun and humor was the intention of the topic! Maybe I will get a topic on the men's or "Jock's" forum and you ladies can join in on that one also....lol! Thanks again!

BorisOct 23, 2010Well ask the French as both words come from that language!!!! BUt I think bra comes from Les Brassier (which is plural) and pants come from Le pantaloons (which is singular) go figure?

Strandjunge59Jul 8, 2021It's a problem of the English language. In German both are singular.
