  Do most men feel awkward going into a Dr. office for a complete physical exam or no?It doesn't bother me one way or the other if I am told to get undressed for the exam or I just do it because I think I know all that's gonna happen regardless if it's a male Dr. or female.I grewup in a home where clothes weren't worn in the house day or night so being nude in front of a Dr. for me or in front of anyone else isn't a big deal at all and in fact I am comfortable moreso nude then dressed around others any day or night.Does anyone feel awkward when a Dr. does a prostate exam or touches their ball sack in the exam?

  I have had both male and female residents for my primary care. All but the current female were foreign born. I did not get a prostate or testicular exam from either female, but did get both from the males in their last year. I was not uncomfortable with those exams, but am actually more uncomfortable wearing the gown that I am given. It seems to be a waste since it is open in the back and if left for the doctor to do a proper exam, it falls off my shoulders.

  We moved last year to Florida and finally got a doctor this year. When I went to get my physical for our insurance, I made a note to make sure I wore boxers. I've gotten to the point where I go commando just about all the time now. I had to have some xrays done on my hip, so I was glad to have the boxers on. It wouldn't have bothered me to be naked for the xray tech, but I didn't want to make her uncomfortable.

  I prefer a female Doctor, but since I am going to the VA exclusively, I do not have the choice of gender.

  I live in NYC, and I have had some interesting exams.

  My current doctor starts the exam in my underwear and halfway through I am naked for the remainder of the exam.

  Primary physician never has me take off anything below the waist since I now go to a urologist for henia, digital rectal and testicular exam.
  Dermatologist has me strip to my underwear. I kept one pair for that purpose when I stopped wearing underwear, but got rid of it shortly after my last full body exam. Now I am having second thoughts about going without,

  I grew up in Ukraine, and during medical check-ups at school and university, nudity was often a standard procedure - at least for the boys.

  I remember when I was in the 8th grade (I was 14; this was 2008), our entire grade level - about 120 students - were taken to the local pediatric clinic (ages 018) for a check-up. After going through the first few exam rooms together, we were separated from the girls.

  For some reason, the girls were granted special treatment and privacy, whereas privacy for the boys was unheard of. We were stripped completely and pile our clothes onto chairs in a separate room that would be locked for safekeeping. We were ordered to take everything off - even our socks and underwear - and line up barefoot to walk to the "surgeon's" office (surgeons were the ones responsible for general developmental check-ups); then marched us there in formation.

  We walked another 100 meters or so to the designated room. Needless to say, it was a regular workday, and the hallway was full of peoplepatients and parents with children (ranging from infants to teenagers)who could witness our entire humiliating ordeal.

  We had to wait outside the exam room in full view of random passing doctors and patients, as they only let ten boys in at a time, and there were about sixty of us. Inside the room, there were like 5 people in white coats conducting the exams: measuring height and weight, checking grip strength and for stutters, making us do squats and hop on one leg, and performing other pointless Soviet-era assessments.

  Then came the equally humiliating trek back. Thank God, our girls were busy at the time - presumably in another wing of the hospital. So, aside from 20-30 random visitors in the corridors - mostly mothers with their sons and daughtersno one witnessed our humiliation.

  Same thing happened when we all went to military conscription office(age 16) - we were naked walking on the very cold floor thru 56 different doctors, but at least it was boys only place, so we were no so shy, cuz only few old nurses and our teacher were able to see us.

  Now I understand its not a big deal - we were kids and no one cared about us naked, but back then as a teenager I saw a terrible injustice in this.

  My mistake, I remembered it was for sure 6-th grade (so, I was 12 y.o. means it 2006)

  I get checked out by a female dermatologist twice a year and I don't mind her seeing me nude and shaved.

  I was just checked a week ago, was upfront with me being a nudist, she was unfazed by it, totally comfortable and checked every where and Im mostly shaved. Great first visit with her and have scheduled a visit for next year.
