Shirts v shoes

  In Canada, most people remove their shoes at the door, and still have socks on. In cases where a person has bare feet, I almost always have them keep their shoes on. Street dirt is easier to clean than sweaty dirt.

  That said, my social group is mostly artists, musicians, actors, and similar types of people. Stages of undress, especially when gathering socially after a performance, is pretty normal. If someone wants to take off their shirt, or more likely, have it hanging open, most people take very little notice.

My social group is mostly church related or music in the sense of concert bands. One of my church colleagues is in a mens group with me and we were also in a couples group for quite a while. He dislikes shoes as much a I dislike shirts, and he often takes his off when we are meeting and everyone is fine with it. I suspect that if someone took a shirt off, the reactions would be different. Similarly, it is not uncommon for men or women to slip their shoes off at a band rehearsal, but I have yet to see anyone remove their shirt. The only other person who is in all three of the bands I am in sometimes wears shirts promoting clothing optional beaches and/or lifestyle, but he still leaves them on.
