When I was 16/17 I worked as a trainee electrician in the coal industry in a small colliery in the South Yorkshire coalfield. I, along with other young lads had to complete a 3 month basic training and safety course underground in one of the biggest collieries.
We actually saw a couple of miners working naked , i soon joined in. On that occasion we were taken to the pit face, where the heat was unbearable, and two young men were totally naked, wearing only helmet, knee pads and boots. The large bladed machine that dug the coal from the face made the loudest noise I had ever heard, and kept travelling past us as we crawled along the pit face down a tunnel about 18 inches high at the side of the machine. It was quite a long tunnel, and I was directly behind one of the young miners all of us naked and free, made more sense in heat lol.
I always enjoyed the communal naked showers in the pit head baths.

Hi buddy agree with your comment about Health and Safety and PPP equipement etc regarding working down mine shafts naked, but remember reading about it in History at school, also digging tunnels for railways etc, posted some pictures in media of group "Nude Workers" here so you can see lol Taken from 50's 60's 70's and 80's I think. I remember speaking with miners who told me that if you had a cut or your skin got scraped , coal dust could get in, which mean that your veins would discolour and possibly get infected from the coal dust, I hope you managed to avoid that during your time down the pit .

When Chernobyl melted down the crew trying to contain the damage worked nude. The documentary about it had full nudity . It was accurate too..The guide told us that when I toured the facility in 2019.

I have read that some diamond and gold miners are required to work naked to minimize pilfering,
