Running Nude

I’ve been an avid runner for most of my life and well before the idea of participating in nude recreation ever came to mind, I often thought about how unique it might feel to run naked.  Nude running is far from a modern concept.  In ancient Greece where athletic exercise played an important part of daily life it is believed that in the city-state of Sparta the custom of exercising naked was first introduced.  From there it spread to the whole of Greece, and the athletes from all its parts, coming together for the Olympic Games and the other Panhellenic Games, competed naked in almost all disciplines not just the foot race events.  I’m looking forward to participating in my first nude run next month at a nearby nudist resort and am anxious to experience what is truly is like to run naked.

I use to run twice per week, about 5-6 km each day, and I've run several popular races (about 4-7 km). Of course I can't do it nude!
But once I went to a nudist camping, located over a long beach, and early in the morning several nudist campers use to run along it. It has about 1,5 km long, so go and return was a nice trainning, and of course done in the nude! Feelings at the beginning were confused, didn't know if I really like it, but finally I get used to "the balance and dingling" of all it. And of course I've enjoyed.
Last day I run first to the end of the ebach and then I returned swimming, so I did a nude duathlon, too, hehe

    Hi,
I use to run barefoot, most times on the beach, sometimes in the woods and dunes and even a couple of times on the street.
Till now i never dared to go barefoot on a big runnersevent but last weekend i did an 17km run with 25 other chi-runners.
On the beach i choose the time to ran so that there are not so much people there, and when quiet i love to go nude and ran without anything except my own body.
Its a great feeling i can't describe, every one should be able to try this at least once.
    Nude regards

I have run nude at both Blacks Beach in San Diego and Orient Beach in St. Martin. While Orient Beach is as close to paradise as I have ever been, the running on Blacks Beach was better. The beach is flat and the sand is firmly packed for a very nice running surface. The nude section of the beach is pretty long so you can get in a pretty good workout.

I never run anywhere. The government are always asking us to conserve energy, so I walk slowly.

Thinking of entering the 5k race at White Thorn Lodge this summer. It will be my first 5k race naked. I've raced very many 5ks over the years, but none naked. Anyone else planning to go?

As nice as it is to run naked, any distance like 5k is too prolonged flopitude, and it aches for a while.

I don't have much to flop so I should be good. It'll be fun. Finally I can streak legally!

I have a treadmill in my basement, so running nude is no problem for me. However, to be able to run nude outside is going to be a bigger challenge.

Anytime that I pick up the pace or the grade, the torso and thigh slapping leads to that dull, benumbed, achey feeling down there.  Normally, an epsom salts bath can help and some intermittent ice.  I just find that any jock or nylon mesh support prevents that feeling.

Hot weather puts added stress on the body. Adding exercise to the mix makes it even harder for the body to function properly.

To cool itself, the body sends extra blood circulating through the skin. This takes blood away from the muscles, which in turn increases heart rate. This trifecta of events leaves the body vulnerable to heat illness.

Heres what to watch out for:

    Heat Cramps

These are painful muscle contractions occurring mainly in the calves, quadriceps and abdominals.

    Heat Exhaustion

When experiencing heat exhaustion, body temperatures can rise as high as 104 degrees. This includes the onset of symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, headache, fainting, dizzy spells, weakness, and clammy skin.

    Heat Stroke

When experiencing heat stroke, body temperatures can rise in excess of 104 degrees. The body will be hot to the touch, but perspiration will be non-existent. If left untreated, heat exhaustion can lead to organ failure, brain damage, and even death.

Athletic fatigue may involve weakness and nausea. Ultimately, the only way around any type of heat illness is preparation and avoidance.

Heres how to overcome the dangers of running in the heat:

    1. Know what you are getting into.

Be aware of the temperature outside and adjust your workout if it is abnormally hot.

    2. Hydrate.

Dehydration can easily lead to heat illness. If you are planning a hard workout, substitute a sports drink for water. The sports drink will be higher in sodium, chloride and potassium.

    3. Dress for the weather.

Think lightweight and breathable. Stay away from dark colors and wear a hat.

    4. Ease into it.

If its the first hot day of the year, postpone your long run. Be smart, be patient and be healthy

I recommend that any ladies interested in running nude listen to the monthly podcasts done by the owner of the Bare Oaks Naturist Resort, there is a podcast where he talks about breasts, an another where he interviews a researcher who links the bra to breast cancer. I feel that men who experience pain to their genitals from running nude are just being silly, running nude is how your body is ment to be. It you experience pain from it you are probably used to too much support to begin with. Women are in an unfortunate position if they have worn a bra all of their lives because the breasts are used to being constricted and they have lost their natural structure and support. I have seen life long nudist women who have very firm and shapely breasts that don't sag under their own weight.  My opinion is nude shouldn't hurt, if it hurts to run the way your body was intended to be then something is wrong...you are used to too much support from being clothed all of your life!

I reaally like running nude, althoug I haven't had many opportunities to try it.I think I go faster with the cloth weight removed, a mental block of course. Plus, I just love the way the air strikes my front!!

An injury forced me to cancel my plans to run in the 5k race at White Thorn Lodge this summer, but I was able to participate in the Bare Dare 5k at Caliente. Being from the northern US, I had to adjust my plans following the hot weather advice given earlier in this forum. The temperature was about 75 and humidity approached 90 to 100 percent, conditions to which I am not accustomed. I had flown in the day before the race, so there was no time to acclimate to these conditions. I scaled back my pace and walked several times in the last mile. This was my first nude race although I have run naked before. It was a great experience and I would love to do it again. The race organization was very well done. I wear the tee-shirt proudly.

The last 2 years, I really wanted to do a nude 5K race. Like the one they have at Turle Lake Resort in MI. But things always happen, like having no money, forgetting the date, or work. I guess I'll put it on the to do list for 2013!

Hey, Openrange - Don't give up and try running again. There are lots of secluded parks that you can run at.I prefer to bike naked. I can pick a secluded section of rail trail, ride a few miles out to town, disrobe and ride.  Pick a section of trail you know and have riden before so you know where any houses and crossroads are.  on most trails you can see 1/2 mi ahead to see if there are anyone ahead.  My shorts are on the handlebars.  Last summer I get in a 20 mi naked bike trip down and back on one of my favorite trails.

trione - I have considered going to SF for the Bay to Breakers in the past and I would have to run it naked, since its probably a once in a lifetime chance for me. One reservation I have is having my picture taken and posted all over the web. The picture thing doesn't bother me, but the posting does. How did you deal with this?
We recently returned from a trip to St. Martin and a stay at Club Orient. There, I was able to run around the resort and part of Orient Beach naked. Beach running outside the limits of the Club O is restricted to early morning. I never went past where other were already walking nude so as not to ruin my vacation with a confrontation with police.
