Hi All, I just figured this might be the place to ask this - has anyone downloaded and tried the new Explorer 9 yet?? I'd like to hear a few reviews before letting Microsoft load anything new into my aging computer. Thanks, Gary

westheathenMar 18, 2011You are correct there Jaydog, I upgraded to IE #8 at the weekend and considered the newer version untill I noticed that it is the default for windows 7. As I try not to use anything new from MS untill it is well tested I went for number 8. I just wish I could afford to upgrade from the dreaded Vista, but that will have wait a while.

M_JimmieM_MMar 18, 2011I don't use IE on anything anymore. Just Fire Fox so when I run Linux my browser is easy to jump to because it is the same on both platforms. Open office is the other main program since there is versions for both and it is free also.

westheathenMar 18, 2011I try not to use IE unless I really have to, but I have found sites that refuse to recognise FF, leaving me with no option.

M_JimmieM_MMar 19, 2011Web pages have gotten so large over the years that I had to give up on dial up as the best it ever got was 26.4 kbs and went to satellite which is not what they brag it to be. last night I went to their site to see if they had info that might help speed things up and found out that I was already doing it. The one biggest recommendation was to us Fire Fox as it was rated fastest and most secure of the browsers. the other was to install their optimizer which don't seem to do anything.

jasonMar 19, 2011is IE 9 that much more improved and advanced that it takes windows 7 to run it? how much better is windows 7 over windows xp ? i checked and it is not cheap to upgrade to windows 7.

westheathenMar 19, 2011I have not actually used windows 7 myself, Jaydog, so I can't comment on any improvements over XP. But what you have to remember is that W7 was not produced to replace XP, but the much maligned vista; an illustration of how bad it was, was that MS abandoned it rather than attempt to improve it. That does not happen very often. Your comment reminds me though that I will have to ask my boss about W7, as she uses it on her home laptop and I hate the vista programme that is on mine.

M_JimmieM_MMar 27, 2011in the very top left corner (of FF4) click there and all the tools are hidden. I have not played with the options on this version but it looks like there are plenty of choices to be had.
