Group Purge

There seems to have been a recent purge of groups where the creator have left the site. Unfortunately, this happen to a group I was a co-moderating. The group was relatively active, and I was engaged as a moderator approving new members and deleting spam posts. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm really not in the mood to recreate the group from scratch.
