Given the current plague of spam/fake accounts I think a simple change to privacy settings would help many users overcome the issue.
For media privacy settings, I believe, you can set who can view a photo to public, friends, certified or certified friends. But to view your profile you can only choose between public and friends only.
It would make sense to be able to have the option for restricting viewing profile to certified only. Also if a person cant view your profile then they shouldnt be able to like or message you.
It wont cure the problem, but it would provide a tool for individual members to minimise the impact. And although certification isnt the most arduous process, and can be circumvented fairly easily, it might reduce much if the frustration members feel.
