The chat room seems a bit chaotic. Are there any plans to give the chat room a facelift?
I found element.io to be a good one to use. It's open source and allows for encrypted one-on-one chats.

Sadly this was their update. It hasn't worked right in over a year.

I can't see what you are complaining about.
Do you have any links to a chat room that uses the version you are talking about as an example for others to see?
