Abandoned Quarry (Part 1)

As mentioned in my earlier post, I want to expand on one nude recreation site I loved (yes, past tense and I will say why). I found out about the abandoned rock quarry in Lee Baxandall's World Guide to Nude Beaches and Recreation Areas just outside of Bland Virginia. There is a tunnel that leads through the mountain range in Southern Virginia on I-77, and just to the north of this tunnel is the small town of Bland, Virginia. The guide mentioned that this quarry was very remote, and abandoned to the point that the locals had most likely forgotten all about it, which made it safe to visit and use while nude if one used discretion (no loud music, park in respectful manner). The guide directed one along a country road until one would see an old country style white church to the right, and yes, that was a very accurate description. I parked there, off to the side, and walked across the road to a VERY overgrown gravel road that was gated but easy to climb over, leading up a hill in the thick woods. The climb was moderate, and after birddogging to the right at the top, it led to a short run down to the quarry. The water was crystal clear (again, using past tense here) and as I found out later, full of huge fat Bluegill fish. The first time I went, I was there after midnight since I had taken off from Fort Bragg on a Thursday after I got off duty for the 4th of July weekend. Consequently, I did not see much, but from the light of my flashlight, I could see that the quarry was very large, had 20' cliffs on the opposite shore and again, the water was very clear. I stripped off and skinny dipped in the very cool and refreshing water and knew I would have to return someday in the daylight to suntan nude. July 4th was the next day on Friday, and I decided to leave early in the morning from Cincinnati to return to Bragg on Monday so I could take advantage of my new found nude spot, taking a beach towel with me from home. I got there just before 10:00 AM, and it was a bit different since it was now daylight, and I did not want to be seen parking at the country church, climbing over a gate, and heading up the overgrown gravel road. But I was able to get up to the quarry unseen, and saw the quarry for the first time in the daylight. From the top of the hill, I walked to the edge of the cliff on the close side and saw that the water was indeed crystal clear, most likely spring fed, full of fish, and even had some boulders out near the middle below the water line, but most likely shallow enough to touch and stand up. I also saw that the opposite side where I saw that there were 20' cliffs had dark blue water, indicating that the water was deep there and a good cliff dive spot. I proceeded down to where the road led to the waterline, stripped down, swam to get refreshed after that walk up the hill in the humid early morning air, and then laid out naked to work on my all over tan (which frankly, was non-existent at that point). I stayed for more than three hours just swimming, verifying that I could stand up on the large submerged rocks that I had seen, and made a few cliff dives from the 20' cliffs, all in between spurts off naked sun tanning. Yes, the water was about 20' deep where I dove, so I was not worried about hitting anything. I would have stayed longer, but I had not brought food with me, and I was getting hungry, so I reluctantly dressed and left, vowing to use this spot whenever I would make my 4 day weekend visits to Cincinnati while I was at Bragg.
