Abandoned Quarry (Part 3)

Thus far in writing all of these blogs, I have written them in chronological order from the time I first discovered the joy of being naked. But I need to progress to the current time table in order to write the final blog about the Bland, Virginia abandoned rock quarry. Last year, and I will write about this in the future, I did a drive from here in Ohio, down to Florida where I went down one coast and up another to scratch off some bucket list items, and I drove the entire way nude. A part of this trip, I decided to stop at my old favorite abandoned quarry to see if it was still as wonderful as it was in my army years. I drove there, naked of course, put on a pair of shorts so that I would not freak out any locals who might see me, and grabbed my day pack which had my mask, snorkel, fins, towel and a sandwich for lunch, and started up the hill after jumping the gate. First sign of bad news: a new gate and the gravel road was no longer overgrown. As I climbed, I saw the second bad sign: another gate halfway up and the area fenced off. It was not locked, so I just went through and made sure to close it up before proceeding. At this point, I normally would have already taken my shorts off to get fully naked, but I did not know what I would find once I got up to the top. Maybe someone had built a house up there since I had last visited. Then I saw the third bad sign which really filled me with dread: Cow pies were everywhere. For those who are not aware, when you mix cows with a body of water, they crap and piss in it all the time, wether it be a pond or a stream, not caring that they foul up the water, because ... well, they are cows. I got up to the top, where the road doglegged to the right, walked to the edge of the cliff before heading down there, and the sight I saw immediately made my heart grow heavy with sadness. My once wonderful nude haven and favorite stop over for nude recreation between Cincinnati and Fort Bragg now had puddles in it as opposed to being ten feet deep, the water was murky deep brown, and cows were everywhere IN the quarry, and you could see that they had indeed crapped and pissed in the water making it into an absolute cess pool. Look, I am pro farmer and fully support the dairy and beef industry in our country, but sometime in between me leaving North Carolina in 1992 to return to California and that day in July of last year, some jackass had bought this land, and thought it was a good idea to let his cattle run free and allow them to use the quarry water for their hydration needs, instead of fencing them off from access to the water, and ... I don't know ... maybe piping the water up to a trough where they could do no harm!!!! It was so sad, that I couldn't even be pissed off about it. I could only shake my head, bow that head in a huge sigh, turn around, and walk back down to my car. So ... as has happened far too often in our country, naturists and nudists such as ourselves lost another gem of a nude recreation spot that brought a lot of joy into my life, and any other nudist who learned about this spot from Lee Baxandall's WGTNBARA. I wish I could report that all is well, and encourage everyone to check it out, but even as I write these words, my heart is still saddened by what I saw that day. No more naked seclusion. No more crystal clear water. No more huge bluegill. No more naked cliff diving. No more naked snorkeling. It is now a ruined paradise turned to crap. Sorry for the bummer report and blog, but I had to share the truth of the matter. On that note, I also have heard from my recent visit to see my friends at Glen Eden, that even Deep Creek Hot Springs has been taken over by the textiles, and people are now afraid to use it nude! Folks, we have to do better to preserve the few nude recreation spots that are available to us. We have to do better, or they will all be gone. This quarry, San Onofre Beach, Swallows Nudist Club, De Anza Springs Resort, Paradise Gardens in Cincinnati: ALL gone forever for nude recreation. I admit, I don't have any solutions, but nude recreation is supposedly growing in popularity, and if that is true, then why are we losing all of these gems to exercise our desire to be nude in nature? My heart is sad on this night.
