Of all the things that are controversial about being naked, I would not expect sleeping naked to be one of them. I mean, really? Sleeping is pretty much something that you do in private, and who should care what you wear? Yet recently, Ive read several articles on why sleeping naked is a bad idea. Somehow farting in bed is bad, but farting in your underwear is not. The most questionable of these in my mind was how sleeping naked on a warm night can make you feel warmer and cause poor sleep. We humans are designed to sweat--that's our cooling system. The evolutionary process that led to this cooling system is fascinating, but that is another blog. Basically, it is simple physics that evaporating water is a cooling process. Therefore, if water evaporates from your skin, it cools you. I have always had issues with the concept that fabrics that wick sweat away from your body are cooling. Yeah, maybe you are cooling the fabric, which then cools your skin. If you have to wear clothes, then these wicking fabrics may be the way to go, but naked is how the system was designed to be most effective. I simply do not believe that sleep covered up is more cooling than with your skin exposed. In fairness, I thought that article was so ridiculous I didnt finish reading it. One article I did finish in Popular Science was Why you should sleep naked tonight, according to science Rest easy in your birthday suit: https://www.popsci.com/health/benefits-of-sleeping-naked/
