Interesting development...the council thought the beach belong to them, well they found out the NSW national park authority is in fact the owner, and they have decided to no longer support clothing optional on it!
A very sad day for Naturism in Australia!

VincentOriginal PosterFeb 13, 2024This beach is lost. The council is looking at alternative location. NSW national park won't reconsider as beach goers are allegedly damaging the local flora by going more and more in dunes and park.

VincentOriginal PosterFeb 13, 2024The council has no juridiction on the beach. Next week vote is about the council removal of the signs identifying the beach as clothing optional. Nsw National park authority had made it clear they will not allow clothing optional on that beach but they are in talk with the council, from my understanding , to find another location ...but that may never occur. A strong petition wpuld ceryainly help...but where are our leading naturist associations? Why are they falling silent ? Are there just there to collect memberships? Why don't they lobby and start a campaign to revive Naturism in Australia....and I am not talking about a nude cruise there, a nude gathering there etc ...but a real educational and effective campaign!

BillFeb 13, 2024The quote below gives enough information to see where the problem probably started, something that often ruins and sometimes will end up closing down CO and nude beaches - beach goers who cannot control where their feet go because they can't control their urge to find a spot in the dunes for more intimate or less-than-social activities. If people continue to engage in inappropriate behaviors - whether it's because they're going to a public beach to get in the sun nude and then weirdly decide they don't want other people seeing them (a truly antisocial attitude as opposed to being socially bare in a natural setting) or they are trying to hook up - nude places will keep being lost when people can't follow stated rules and stay clear of closed areas, or keep letting their genitals take charge. Allowing sex and naturism to intersect without regard to keeping healthy, family-oriented nudism as the ultimate goal, it ends up a loss for everyone, every time. Byron Bay is only the latest of these bare-safe places to fall away due to selfish fools. Officials will play the environmental card every time, and they need to. So without lifeguards or patrols to enforce the careful use of natural places (which costs monies usually not available), say goodbye! We lost a beautiful, nude-accepting strand of beach here in Virginia called Grandview because the neighborhood residents adjacent to it could pull out their spyglasses and witness sexual activity going on right out in the open. We'll ignore the fact that the (understandably-) offended residents might've found some other way to entertain themselves than through the use of a telescope in the daytime. A more instructive view of Uranus might've been to train said device into the night sky rather than attempting to count the Youranus being displayed on the beach. But after beginning to ticket people for simply being nude, as well as busting the perpetrators of what was becoming an open air sextravaganza, it still wasn't stopping the illegal activity, so everyone loses one of the very few beaches in this state where nakedness was allowed. I get it. Getting down and dirty around nudists that don't want it is extremely rude and inappropriate but if the people involved are willing participants and don't rub it in other peoples faces and remain "private", out of site, what's the issue. We are adults that all understand some people really enjoy a respectful sexual encounter.
It is also weird to me that people who consider themselves nudists but include family in these nude beach situations. Who the hell wants nude children around them or to be nude around those children. I bloody don't.
Adult nudity should not intersect with children or whatever people call family situations on nude beaches.
If everyone separated these two things (adults and children) and acted like adults that know what adults can get up to, there would be no issues.
In saying this, I know that predators exist. Just be careful who you label a predator. A loving couple just fooling around a bit in the sun on a beach is a beautiful sight to see. Grow up people.
I am not condoning explicit sex in front of everyone on the beach.ReactReply - EA

BillFeb 15, 2024The quote below says it with eloquence and and without all the words that I would like to throw at the idea of nude beaches being for only adult visitors. That is plain insane.
The few that ruin it for the many. There are beaches for the clothed, beaches for the few nudists, and explicit/swinger camps for those who want them. Why cant they all respect each other and keep behaviors where they belong?
Having spent way too much time on a response and then the site crashes before I'd sent it (did I break it?), I will offer a few more words, beginning with a link to an article about Byron Bay Beach and its demise: https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/not-consistent-with-values-byron-bay-s-nudist-beach-days-are-numbered-20240212-p5f4a4.html Beaches are for everyone, and to suggest that all ages should not be allowed because adults are gonna "adult" - therein lies the childish idea. The term adult partly means people who are old enough to control their base urges in a social situation; it does not mean an adult should assume they are allowed to follow their erectile tissues around, to turn any naked time into fornicate time. Playful adults turn into explicit sex, do not fool yourself with that lunacy. We were all children once, and many of us couldn't keep our clothes on very long when the sand and surf was surrounding us. Try to recall that feeling - if you are the child of a parent who finally gave up on pulling the swimsuit back on you - it was a futile affair. If there is a deep dislike for being around nude kids, or some assumption that people who enjoy being nude with people of every age group are in some way getting off on it, realize that that is in the mind, not in the real world. That idea boils down to a deep (but thoroughly faulty) belief that naked people all have an underlying need to fornicate when their clothes are removed. We do not. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but not on a public beach. There is a time for it and a place as well, but those are not on a beach, unless of course you own that beach. The fragility of beach ecosystems is well known, and natural beach areas need to be carefully-managed. To expect a dune to survive when adults who "gotta screw NOW or I'll spontaneously combust all over the sand," walk over them to get to their quickest dick-stination, read up on the subjects of flora and fauna, and learn that mother nature needs our help, or away go the dunes and away go the humans (and away go the almighty tourism dollars).ReactReply - BI
BillFeb 15, 2024Damned right TM2010. Not having clothes on has nothing to do with understanding the relationship we humans have with the natural environment, though I'll make the educated guess that nudists in general see the world a bit differently, hopefully realizing that we are more a part of the whole instead of just another self-centered user of the world's resources. Without clothes that tend to get in the way of connection, the closeness we share with the surrounding space develops, enveloping us in the lap of nature, allowing us to become more a part rather than a separate entity. When power companies and politicians get together and turn the speakers of the truth about climate change into a false enemy, with all of the continuing damage that fossil fuel is doing, ignoring the solid science and to achieve nothing except to heighten their precious profit margins, Gaia aches.

EarlDFeb 15, 2024
At Playalinda this past November, I witnessed something quite interesting (and something that I agree with): there are repeated signs throughout the beach that warn beachgoers to stay off the dunes. The signs are in the clothed section, as well as the nude section. It was my understanding that most of the long-time beach-goers, particularly the nude ones, know that the dunes need to be preserved so that the beach stays intact. This is completely credible - given how much of that beach was damaged due to Hurricane Ian during 2022 and how likely hurricanes are going to get worse as climate change continues (how many of you just signed off - LOL).
The sad thing is these people who go the the beach to get the jollies of clothes or naked arent interested in preserving the beach dunes or otherwise for use they are there with one intention too fulfill their libertine pursuits. To hell with the rest of us, our families and our desire to enjoy the natural beauty the sun sand and sea have to offer. Consequentially we all lose so they can get a thrill.ReactReply - EA

It looks like Werrong beach is done as well now. Went to go there the other day and the track is closed with rangers stopping any access, as the track is being "assessed" for "safety". The ranger I spoke with said it may never open back up because of the so called "risks" to walkers. A sad day.
ReactReply - VI
VincentOriginal PosterMay 26, 2024Yes Werrong is currently officially closed as there is a part of the hill on the trail to access it that has collapsed in 2022 heavy rain and another portion about 150m long and between 20 to 80 m has dropped by 15 cm to 50+cm in some area. With water eroding tgat unstable portion furter it is unlikely the old trail to Werrong will be open anytime soon.
Having said so there is the possibility to create a new trail ( about 250/ 300m up ) diverting from the old one.
It wpuld be better for the authority managing the park to actually create this new trail themselves before people tale it on their hands to do so as to avoud damage to the eco-system.
People want access to Werrong, some have ignored the "closed"signs, and even installed topes to clim up/ down the unstable paortion of the hill! Dangerous action, specially as and wet weather even or as recently experienced, small earthquake, could allow that portion of tge hill to collapse...potentially burring anyone there under tones of rubbles.ReactReply - TR
Trekrider2779May 29, 2024A friend of mine is a regular at Werrong and visits most weekends. While the track is officially closed, the beach is still in use. His words were that, "the rangers are never anywhere to be seen", when I asked him about this.

VincentOriginal PosterOct 28, 2024Went to Werrong...well wanted to but the sign to the beach have been removed and two barriers are supposed to stop people going there...the fact is tgat the whole side of the park where the beach trail is located is unstable...since 2022 heavy rain 2 more landslides have occured at the beach...but one huge one occured just at the begining of the trail...that one is about 40 time bigger than the one at the beach! ...near the beach a whole part of the national park has moved down by 15cm to 40 cm at places indicating and unstable ground. I lived going down to Werrong neach, but after assessing the risk, it is not worth it...rain is not the only issue now...i m no expert but strong wind may also trigger the collapse of the instable area...not something you want to be walking on when ot gives way! It is not IF but WHEN it will all collapse! It will then likely expose the remaining hillside to further collapse...so indeed Werrong beach is lost!
The question is are we going to take it and say nothing or are we going yo lobby the council to found another location for a clothing optional beach?ReactReply - JO
JorgiOct 28, 2024You need you lobby the council to actually have a clothing optional beach. Werrong is in the RNP, so to me it never counted as a council beach. Yes, the track has never been great, and the rains certainly would not have helped. With so many beaches in Wollongong, they can afford a couple.
