  Iwas 55 when I was circumcised after thinking about having it done for years. Absolutely no problem with the op itself or the recovery. Delighted that I finally got round to it and wish that I'd had it done years ago.

  I was never mutilated, God wasn't circumcicion and if it's good enough for him........

  The post below gives the impression to this reader that a newborn male can remember having had a foreskin, but most babies don't remember much of anything until much later, well into toddler stage most of the time. It is true that a child cannot object to the procedure with it taking place sometimes only days from them coming into the world. But the decision is only one of a myriad of choices left to a parent or parents who cannot ask for an opinion from a person who has limited ways of communication. I prefer to look at it in the same vein as the many (unrelated to genitalia) decisions any parent has to make in the early years of their child's life, things like whether to go with breastfeeding, any corrective surgery for abnormalities, lots of religious choices such as to baptize, what foods to introduce and when, etc. Surely, removing a part of a baby's body through elective surgery isn't the same as fixing a cleft palate, but parents do need to make sometimes difficult decisions for their charge. Unlike the grotesque and altogether unnecessary procedure unfortunately referred to as 'female circumcision' - where part or all of the woman's external genitals are removed, taking away many nerve bundles and sensitivity, in an area of the body which has a higher concentration of nerve endings than anywhere else in a human - male circumcision has been shown in many cases to even add sensitivity, and though the medical jury seems to want to keep debating it, the procedure possibly may help reduce the chance of illnesses such as recurring UTIs and to even lower the risk of some cancers later in life.
