[strong]When visiting a Nudist Resort, I would prefer that all participants agree to Not Wear Clothing at all.[/strong]

It really seems to put everyone on the same playing field if everyone is naked. It can seem a little awkward when some are dressed and some are not. If there are a lot of people dressed, than that is when I notice that I am not dressed.

It seems that there are themes for a lot of the dances and parties at nudist resorts. People attend the parties and dress according to the "theme". I wish sometime the theme was just a"Birthday-Suit" theme.

I understand the weather sometimes prohibits people from being completely undressed ... but when the situation allows, I think everyone should be naked at a nudist resort. Most resorts seem to be clothing optional, I wish most places would have a rule that nudity is required.

[strong]Does anyone else prefer Clubs & Resorts that require participants agree to Not Wear Clothing in General???[/strong]

[strong]What are your favorite Clubs that expect you to be Naked at all times ??[/strong]
For a great podcast on this topic, listen to this Naturist Living podcast.
https://www.naturistlivingshow.com/2009/06/why-clothing-optional-does-not-work.html

Yes that is a good podcast. I personally do not like clothing optional resorts. Clothing optional does not follow the idea of naturism. Imagine Adolf Koch in his gymnastics schools. Imagine he allowed to be clothing optional during his gymnastics. Does not work. The whole psycho sociological effect is gone. I visit also clothing optional resorts. I am always naked. (It must be under 19 degrees C, that I am not) I have a towel with me to cover if necessary. People smile and follow me and take their clothes off.

I subscribe to the perspective of the great naturist writer, film maker and philosopher Marc Alain Descamps who said this.

Naturism should never be imposed on those who do not want it. Many people are very ashamed of their body, their sex and are traumatized by the sight of the human body, so they can never get naked. And it is necessary to respect their state, as in the various phobias. Many people cant stand the sight of mice, spiders or snakes and you shouldnt force them.We only create more isolated and smaller naturist enclaves IMO when we require only those who are comfortable being clothes free all the time to be in the community.

Marc Alain Descamps said also that you diffuse the exhibitionist-voyeurist relationship if all are naked. You should also take this into account.
You can always give people the possibility to adapt to a nude society in a quite place. But at most places all have to be naked.

I have tried to find more of his writing on the subject because I have only heard Stephane from Naturist Living Show refer to that in a treatise he wrote about the decline of clothing free in European naturism during one of his campaign to be INF president. But I couldnt find more than that in his writings and I have read a lot of the English version of his writings. Does he say that in le vivre nu?

I am just asking because we both may be right but if he just mentions that in one instance but mentioned the stuff I quoted in multiple places it would be unwise to overemphasize.

I just dont see how to square respect for others and their lived experiences if we take that point of view.

He said this in an interview in the living naked movie of Robert Salis. I'm searching also for the written text. Its a shame that Descamps did not write down all of his ideas in papers. Will follow up on this one.

Interesting I have never heard where it come from before, and I havent found a version of the movie with subtitles

Actually there a great web site collection of his writing and thought. That is where I source all my material on his because I dont read French and cant find an English translation of le vivre nu

I prefer clothing optional mostly because my wife is more comfortable when she can choose. Some times she will just go topless. If it is a nudity required, she would not accompany me as much.

My club is a nudist resort but is only nudity required around the pool. Other place they just say nudity is expected. My wife will wear a sarong unless we are in the pool or hot tub.

Doesnt seem to me like it harms anyone to have her wear a sarong but that seems to be the conventional wisdom among the clothes free all the time folks

After reading all the responses, I think I've come to support the mix whereby many areas are CO while maintaining some mandatory parts such as a pool and deck area. Enough room to accommodate timid spouses or newbies combined with the mandatory areas that shall encourage them to leave their security behind.

I'd still like to think only the weather would possibly force me to cover up whether optional or not. :-)

    Is the staff nude?
Since you are in Virginia, am I correct that nudity required is seasonal?
Is the staff nude? Since you are in Virginia, am I correct that nudity required is seasonal?
Are you speaking to me? If so, the staff is nude at White Tail Resort if they want to be, anywhere except the restaurant kitchens, that having to do with food service regulations. There are four places at this resort where clothes are allowed to be worn besides at your rented space, in general; the office, the outdoor pavilion, the chapel, and the two food preparation and service areas. Patrons are allowed to be clothed if they want be in the seated restaurant, but wait and kitchen staff are required to wear clothes. Nudity is required at all times, all year round, in the wet areas and other social areas unless someone is dealing with heat or weather issues. If you're cold you put something on; if it is raining you put on a rain coat; if it is sunny you put on a hat and shirt; if it is snowy you wear your boots and gloves. Bob keeps the indoor areas well heated during the cold parts of the year to encourage no clothing, but everyone is different. No one can feel what you feel. There is a realistic expectancy of nudeness with respect given to an individual's physical comfort, but not to their mental comfort. We are nude by consensus. If you don't want to be bare when the weather is fair, you're not in the right place.

Clothing optional. I go to nude places so I can get nude without getting into trouble. I dont care if others are clothed or not. Ive got enough confidence in my naked body not to feel vulnerable with clothed people around. I have been the only one out of 13 at a swimming hole nude and I and the others thought nothing of it. Forcing people to be naked when they dont wish to be only makes them more uncomfortable, and they will be turned off with all the regimented rules. Not a good way to introduce a curious person to nudism. I would never insist my non nudist friends get naked if I took them to the beach. One reason I stick to the beaches and not resorts.

The insistence on everyone being nude does seem pushy, but the understanding that clothes don't make you any more or less than everyone else is very important for getting down to the root of what true nudism is. Sticking to clothing optional beaches is probably the easiest way to go for the curious who can't get past their very personal stigma to the alternate idea of everybody being bare. That way the curious can leisurely come into the understanding of the merits of nudity, or not. Clothes are so dumb. But losing good friends by being confrontational with them about nudism is dumber. I haven't burned my swim trunks just yet, but they are getting quite dusty.

Don't burn the swimsuits. You might take a trip somewhere that requires them.

I quite agree you point out the part of the nude always argument that doesnt make sense to me. Why would my enjoyment of being clothes free be based on anyone elses state of dress.
Why would my enjoyment of being clothes free be based on anyone elses star of dress.
Well...among many of the nudist women I've spoken too, the consensus seems to be that they're more comfortable going completely naked when they can "just blend in", i.e, everyone else is naked as well. My wife has also admitted as much. It's not so much a question of enjoyment as it is a question of safety and comfort.

I'd say clothing optional. I just got back from Hippie Hollow, first time and found it amazing, mainly because of how large and chill it is with over a dozen beach access points. The first one closest to the parking lot had the most textiles, about 50%, whereas the others were almost all nude. What I found interesting is how people disrobed as nudity isn't allowed in the parking lot. I was happy to take off my clothes asap, others went into the restroom and others waited until they got to their spot where they wanted to hang out. That tells me how much comfort with being seen naked and/or disrobing varies even among nudists. If nudity becomes a uniform the sense of freedom gets quashed.

Because their are all kinds of assumptions that go with that and the notion of safety. It suggests the mouth that just because everyone is naked we magically become the same. Ignoring the fact that there is a human being with unique experiences inside that naked body. Are predators and those create unsafe environments less likely to do so if they are naked? I just dont think that can be a categorical statement.

I prefer the clothing optional locations. My wife has accompanied me to almost every venue I have visited. Though not a nudist per se, she is nude in the motorhome, occasionally under the motorhome awning & at the pool. Otherwise, she wears a rather thin beach style coverup. I dont know that she will ever walk around the resort nude, but that doesnt matter to me. She is with me, supportive and is nude as she is comfortable. Thats all I could ever want or ask. I think Im a lucky guy.

Has to be clothing optional, although I would always be naked, but clothing not allowed does not help our cause as naturists to be free to do what we want,
If we start laying down rules like no clothing allowed, we can not then complain about the textile world saying no nudity allowed, it just further segregates us and it would be hypocritical,
We have to strive for clothing optional in as many places, areas as possible, no one is being forced either way, everyone is free to do what they want..
