  New York State had a similar ruling years ago.
  While it is legal for women to be topless at parks, beaches and some other places, very few are.

  I believe that even though some women prefer to be topless or at least braless, society will still shun and degrade those who choose to exercise that right. The back lash that women get for breastfeeding in public is shameful but at least they have a medically proven reason. Those few women that dont care what society has to say will be the only ones.

That said, there will always be those who think that they need a top on even if it exposes most of the breast as long as it covers the nipple and areola. It is likely that more would shed their tops if they knew they would not be subjected to stares and catcalls from men and shunning by other women. They will also have to feel that it is OK to not have the perfect size and shape.

  I agree Hooper. It will take a few generations of freed nipple living before it will start to catch on I think. Perhaps with mainstream publication and Facebook allowing topless women the trend will catch on.

  There is no perfect size or shape. I hope that is something that is conveyed by society as well.

  No Facebook does not allow any nudity. What I was saying is that for society to change their view of topless women, major publications that currently allow topless men and social media sites like facebook, will have to start allowing topless women as well. Then, young women who have grown up seeing other women topless will feel more comfortable being topless in public.

  Thanks for clarifying. I'm no fan of FB and their blanket, no exceptions, policy on nudity isn't even at the top of my list of peeves with them. I have a feeling it'll be the last peeve of mine they'll ever remedy though.

Btw, the Judges for the appeal didn't post to the thread but one of them was a woman. And her opinion definitely matters. Shouldn't she factor into your thought somehow?

  I have to admit I've watched this thread to see if any women were going to post to it. I'd also call out that just because you want to level the playing field doesn't mean that you're going to participate - I can see women wanting top freedom but never participating in it until it becomes more mainstream and less awkward...

  Recent case in Loveland, CO where a woman was playing Frisbee with her husband in their yard. They were both topless. She was cited for indecent exposure. He was not. She told the officer about the Fort Collins case that now allows women to be topless anywhere a man can be. The city settled with her for $50,000.

  It was pretty commonplace at the beaches I went to in Europe. But then it was the beach and not out in the streets.

Just like seeing a woman's arms and legs in the early 20th century in the US when modesty meant you weer covered form head to toe in order to not tempt men who couldn't control their sexual urges. It took some years before women began to wear dresses above the ankle and even more for short short sleeves and plunging neck lines. Men, for the most part, have been able to control their urges and not "Mount" a woman at the site of exposed skin. With today;s fashion with shorts that expose but cheeks and just barley cover the labia, I think that men will soon see women's bare breast as what they are and not a sex object.
