I find that gays are being more comfortable being nude in front of fellow men than the straight men. What is your opinion on that guys?

TomJul 14, 2018I don't care who I'm naked in front of. Probably been seen naked by more men than women as men generally imo are more open to being nude in public.

From the locker rooms of the 50's and 60's to having friends stop by and the occasional run out to the car I don't care who sees me.ReactReply

SteveJul 15, 2018Not so sure about that. Gay men are more likely to have body image issues, for one thing. And where straight guys might be afraid of being thought gay if they were naked with other men, gay guys might be afraid of being thought available - same issue, with the bar moved a bit. I do belong to a gay men's nudist group, a sort of thing that would be less likely to arise among straight men. But when we have hosted farm volunteers over the years, I've seen no pattern among the male visitors that gay guys are more comfortable naked that straight guys are - it's a mix both ways. (Among the women, the gay women have all been extremely reserved about nudity, at least around us.)

Actually I have to disagree with that. I think straight men are more comfortable than gay. Straight men sometime don't even be bother cover up, Cos they believe we all men have a same equipment , but the gay will compare the size of equipment or the image of their naked body.

BrianJul 15, 2018I see no difference one way or the other.

JimJul 16, 2018No, I was terrified of nudity period and only for sex was I comfortable naked. When I let go of the fear and became a nudist I dropped the internalized homophobia that was still operating in my self image. There are a dozen other issues here, and the question is not immediately telling me why this is important.
Are you worried about homophobia Or body shame and subcultures? Is this a post to grow gay nudism, or to critique it? Also the sweeping generalizations straight and gay don't tell us much about men's level of comfort nude. Class, education, employment and region are the important ones.

TonyJul 16, 2018Personally, if you're a true nudist, it shouldn't matter who you're in front of when you're nude. I certainly don't have a problem with it, and I'm straight. Though I have noticed, that straight men, who aren't nudists, do seem to be uncomfortable with having nude men around.

SteveJul 16, 2018I dont think it makes any difference if youre gay or straight- many people have body issues that may make them uncomfortable naked in company. I think one of the great benefits of being a social nudist is that you realise that were all different and its certainly helped me get over the body issues I had as a youth.

What surprises me is that many times the issue is evident to others even when clothed if not more so. Yet nudity is not as comfortable for most as near nudity. I have a body that is in much worse shape than when I was a youth, and I have just learned to live with the fact that I don't look that great, never have. If I can legally wear spandex, why can't I legally be nude? If more of us were nude, there would be more of us comfortable in that state simply because we like to belong.ReactReply

croydonscotJul 16, 2018I wouldn't agree at all , I have Gay friends who regularly go to the gym work out and have extremely toned bodies, but because of gyms culture of making you fell you haven't reached your potential and the Gay Scene marketing an unrealistic image of what the "perfect man " should look like some of them would never get naked in front of anyone else, and a lot of other gay men would feel like this too, I also know that some straight guys might be uncomfortable that gay men might get aroused seeing them naked, but I think that attitude is starting to die out , I go to a naturist spa where the vast majority of people are straight and have never felt unwelcome on any of my visits , have had lots of interesting chats about nudist beaches, holiday resorts , and have even discussed Brexit and other political issues in just the same way as I do when sitting with people when I'm clothed, after all, we are naturists and I am much more than just my sexuality

RodJul 18, 2018I'm not sure if this is true or not, but it probably doesn't matter around nudist guys. Many straight men who aren't nudists will rarely be nude around other guys though.
That being said, as someone who identifies closer to straight I'm jealous that the only time it seems acceptable to be nude in public is during Pride festivals. There should be more naked opportunities throughout the year without having to go to specific festivals or events.

ChithrangaJul 19, 2018in my expereince some gay men are scared as they think they would get aroused and be sexually excited. They think they can't be nude infront of another guy without having sex.

JimJul 21, 2018So here is how the law works around public nudity in most jurisdictions. Nudity isn't usually illegal, it's a city bylaw violation. When gay men and lesbian women started getting ticketed or arrested for public nudity at Pride, lawyers in many cities challenged the by-laws using specific language used around harm. The argument is that these displays caused irreparable harm to some of those who were seeing them, and therefore should be subject to arrest and fine. However, harm is adjudicated based upon what a reasonable person might reasonably expect to see in that community at that time. This is long standing principle because culturally, many communities have practices that are bylaw infractions (firecrackers during Chinese new year, public drinking on St. Paddy's Day, etc). It's understood that if you go to Chinese New Year, you must expect gunpowder effects. Hence, no liability or grounds for ticketing.
The same was argued about Pride...if a person didn't want to see bare breasts and naked bottoms in the street, well, they just had to not go to the Castro one day a year. Eventually, San Fran, Toronto, Montreal, and a few other cities managed to get enough case law precendent before the courts to have a body of legal opinion that makes arresting people or harassing them very legally precarious for the cops. So they stopped. If you want other opportunities, you need to make them. The World Naked Bike Ride is an example of a similar movement. It's called naked bike ride, everyone knows what to expect, and it's now a community standard event in many cities.
I get that Pride may not be for you, but I hope this helps you to see that the work was done by the community, for the community, and Pride being what it is, everyone has gotten to benefit. One of the projects I think is viable is park naturism done under special event permits using careful shrub and tent placement to block the view of the bodies without hiding the nature of the event. As it would be licensed, entry and exit is private not public, and a private event can be nude...the opportunity would be to do outreach and invite first time or curious folks to try it out with support. After three or four of these, the community standard is being established, and the legal standing of a group asking for a naturist enclave in the park would be much more established.

BerkyJul 22, 2018From my own personal experience I think straight men are more comfortable being naked than gay men. Most gay men that I've known only got naked when it was time to have sex.

P CAug 9, 2018The nude beach I visit is in a popular gay area. There are more nude men than women at the beach. Some people remain clothed, many are nude. Who is gay? Who is straight? It takes more than naturism to tell the difference.

hi, i don't know about others but i fee l comfy being naked with men and im straight. I asked myself if i was bi, but i really dont think i am. I enjoy hanging naked with other men a lot and would even try naked wrestling. In the changing rooms i visit there seems to be a few of us who get naked and chat in the showers together too and are perfectly happy even as none nudists being naked together.

JasonJul 28, 2020I believe it's your mindset. You can't generalize all gay men or all straight men but many straight men feel if they are in the company of a gay man the gay man will hit on them. Therefore, keeping their clothes on reduces the risk. Gay men understand that relations with other men are built on attraction as it is with hetero men. Personally, I'm comfortable being naked around anyone (except clothed people for some reason)

ChrisAug 10, 2020I agree that you can't possible generalize, based on sexual preference alone. Though I did find it interesting that when my gf and I went to an LGBT, clothing optional campground, the majority of the people, (99% male), at the pool, chose to keep on some sort of covering: short, shorts, bikinis, jock strap, etc. Going there, I made the ignorant assumption that I'd see more nudity at the pool.

Many gays are probably more comfortable being nude in front of others because they are used to being abused by homophobes with gender identity issues and have a thick skin as a result.

Guzzi27Aug 10, 2020I dont think you can generalise. It is an individual thing. I know any number of gay men, including my brother and his partner, I wouldnt say a higher proportion of them were happier to be nude in front of other men than straight. The swim I used to go to had more , apparently, straight guys than gay.
It probably also depends on context. The two naturist beaches I use most often have distinct gay/bi male zones. I know straight men who are perfectly happy to be naked on the main part of the beach, even though majority of people there are male, but wont consider going naked on that part of the beach. Even though on one beach it forms a large part of the area that is available at high tide. They would rather get dressed and go home, for whatever reason.ReactReply - JO
JohnAug 11, 2020
Second, gay men probably see a lot more male nudity on the internet than straight males do. It's common on the gay-oriented web sites that few straight males care to visit.
I hadn't thought about that angle. It got me thinking about the fact that almost all the men on those web sites are in a "state of arousal," whereas the men that gay men see in naturist settings aren't. Maybe some gay man on this site could give us an insight on that. On the conventional "straight" porn sites, there are a lot of women with their legs open in sexually inviting poses. Does that make nudity more sensuous for straight men or gay women? I don't know. If I saw that pose on a nude beach or a naturist setting, I think my body would be inclined to respond, although I'm sure I could control it after my years in the FKK.
After all, all of us straight nudists have already been in a position of being the odd man out, going where most people don't go, and wanting to be free of the social pressures that the mainstream world is putting on us regarding what we want or don't want to wear and whom we want to associate with. I'm not saying that all straight nudist are as "woke" as we would like them to be, but the odds are that nudists are, on the whole, more liberal and accepting of other people's lifestyles and moral guidelines.
I'd agree with that, although I really don't have any experience with nude people in the US, aside from friends of skinny-dippers at folk festivals, and these are all pre-selected for being liberal, in both the political and the social sense. But the German naturists I met were all pretty free-thinking.ReactReply - MEMemberAug 23, 2020
In my opinion, If the man is comfortable with his nudity, it doesn't matter his sexual preferences.
