Last week I was on a ship of the same company. There was a sign that all men entering the sauna had to be 18 or older (which I can understand, even though I don't fully agree. It can be noisy with children in there). But now bathing suits had to be worn at all times! I thought it was completely stupid, especially when it's a sauna exclusively for men. Some men took off their swimming trunks anyway, wearing their towel around their waist. But anyway... Has public opinion about nudity changed this much in only 5 years?! That's a terrible conclusion. What do you think?

Robert "Lynn" StricklaApr 21, 2018I have an issue with the gym I go. It used to be complete nude in sauna and hot tub in the men's dressing. Now it is bathing suit only. I still wear a towel into the sauna and sometimes take it off and sit on it. The showers was a group shower room. Now they have partitioned each shower head off with curtains. I asked the management and was told the younger men do not like to have to see the nude older men. Have you ever heard such an excuse to make these kind of changes. I told the management that a survey of the members should be taken to make such a decision to wear a suit or not to wear a suit. I am in America where being nude is not well accepted.

nakedcamperflJun 27, 2018Just got back from a 11 day Mediterranean cruise aboard the Celebrity Reflection. The mens locker room has separate shower stalls and a dry sauna. I used it twice daily and found most men only sat on their towel in the sauna. Thirty five percent of the ship were USA passport holders. From what I encounter, it was the Americans that came into the sauna with swim trunks or a tightly wrapped towel. HA! Beautiful ship, btw, and awesome trip.

JasonJul 18, 2020I also noticed the shift in policy. Years ago the mens locker room of the gym I went to was always nude. There was a hot tub, sauna and steam room in the locker room. All the members were nude in all three. Then I started seeing signs put up requiring swimwear. Personally, I'm much more comfortable using these nude. Eventually they took out the hot tub. I had the sense that some members were offended by the nude body.

Residual soap and detergent does create problems.ReactReply

I totally agree with you. I've seen guys where swimsuits in the sauna. I would find that much too confining. The purpose of going into a steam room or sauna is to allow all your pores open up and release toxins. Why would you cover that with a swimsuit?

FullSunJul 22, 2020Though I rarely use saunas or steam rooms, Ive seen enough of these stories where eventually swim attire ends up being required. I have a feeling its the squeaky wheel type of thing. Some people complained to management about there being naked people and no or few complaints the other way. I feel like nudists are less likely to complain because they are so used to being limited. Maybe some complaints to management about saunas being used incorrectly with swim attire blocking pores etc. Maybe that could change the signs to nudity required?

On Norwegian and Royal Caribbean, sauna and steam room are in the separate men's and women's sections of the spa.
There is a substantial upcharge for using the spa, so I did not, so I don't know how common nudity is in them.ReactReply - DADaveAug 20, 2024
The few cruises I've been on the only requirement was to sit on a towel if nude. to use the sauna.. Mostly older males there but at times a younger few would be in there.
