Reading thro many topics on here, and also from the odd venture into the chat rooms, and conversations on other naturist sites, I feel it worth asking the question as to what people's (particularly men's) motivation is for developing a nude lifestyle, especially when it comes to social nudity. Is it just an everyday part of life, or is it something that holds a certain thrill for you that goes beyond just simple enjoyment?
Be honest.
How many guys are naturists simply because they are more comfortable and relaxed that way, and are happy to socialise with other nude folk purely and simply on that basis?
Or how many of you actually like to be naked with other people so you can show off your body and get a good look at other people's?
Even more telling, how many of you are secretly (or not so secretly) hoping for some kind of sexual encounter as a result of being naked around other nudists? Do you relish getting an erection and showing it off to others? Are you always hoping the other men in the shower/on the beach/ in the sauna will also be sporting stiffies - or that someone (be that male or female) will initiate some form of sexual activity?
And where (if anywhere) do you feel the line should be drawn between what is classed as 'simple social naturism' and 'exhibitionism' or 'cruising'?

If you are at a holiday resort whos primary selling point is its sunny warm weather then clothes free is much more comfortable.

This is a quite simple and straightforward answer; it just feels better to me. I really enjoy feeling the air, sun & breeze on my skin and for the more pragmatic out there; I get a lot more chores done and theyre more enjoyable to accomplish. I dont know of a better reason to enjoy being nude than the ones listed above. I am looking forward to seeing everyone elses answers.

Bill BowserMar 28, 2024I cant speak for anyone else here, but Im sure there are others who feel as I do. I never thought of being nude as a recreational activity or something that I did occasionally. Nudism is part of who I am. It is a component of my innate personality. Im a nudist just as I am an introvert. I exhibit behaviors common to introverts not to be an introvert, but because that is part of who I am. I resist donning clothes whenever practical, visit nude beaches, and spend time nude at home not to be a nudist, but because it is a part of who I am.
I dislike wearing clothes. Im nude whenever and wherever it is feasible. I dont care if anyone sees me, but I do hope not to upset the bigots who might choose to be offended by my appearance. When I go to places where others may be nude, I dont care if they are or not. I believe that they should be free to decide for themselves what to wear, just as I expect to be free to choose my wardrobe. What others wear is not my concern, just as what I wear should be no one elses concern. Unfortunately, not everyone else agrees.
I have always been a people watcher, and I like to watch textiles as much as nudists, but even if I were blind I would enjoy going to nude venues and mingling with others who share my lifestyle, and being nude among a textile group causes no discomfort unless some bigot gets upset. Fortunately, that hasnt happened.

nkhikerMar 29, 2024Great question. For me it is comfort. Being clothed when doing yoga or hiking on a hot day just feels wrong. I'm not much of a social person but sharing the freedom of nudity with others is fun. Fun--that is a good word for doing things naked outside. It adds to the fun. There is nothing sexual or exhibitionist about my being nude. Sure, if I see a beautiful woman on a nude beach, I have to keep myself from staring, but that is no different any place else--textile beach or grocery store.

I'm naked because I grew up with some nudity in those situations, and it feels homey and familiar. I'm naked because it engenders a feeling of brotherly trust. There was bullying on the playground, but never in the locker room. I'm naked because of the hippie-era sense that we are all brothers and sisters - the "we" being a community of mutual respect and trust, men and women. I'm naked because it helps me be fully present in the world; under ordinary clothing I mentally withdraw a bit from the world, shyness and alienation creep in. I'm naked because it helps me be fully present in my body; my posture is better, I take better care of myself. I'm naked because the air is good for my skin. Other than warth. Why do you really need to be dressed? To work in an environment that can be dangerous? Clothed people also put on protective coverings in those environments. A "normal" person would cover to stay safe, nude or not.
My comfort is better without clothes to enjoy life, nature and its joys.

Please askMar 29, 2024All good answers here and I can relate to almost all of them. This is a good question and one that I htink reveals het place of nudists in society. For me, it is _not_ about exhibitionism and sex. Like many who responded, I fall into the category of "more comfortable and relaxed that way". I have had this nudism-and-sex conversation with many textiles and I always point out that textiles sometimes have sex and nudists sometimes abstain; it is not about sex but is about freedom and the sensation one gets. Being sexual - we all are made that way - is not dependent on whether we wear clothes.

AlMar 29, 2024Your question is one Ive asked myself many times. Based on my experience of being naked so much of the time, my first reason is comfort. I live alone, so there is no particular reason to dress after waking or when working from home or doing dailies. I prefer not wearing anything when its not necessary. But I am perfectly comfortable dressed in the situations that require it (work, volunteering, shopping, socializing with non-nudistswhich in my case is almost everyone). I seek out places to be naked, alone or with others, especially on travels .I have only a small network of nudist friends, and our interactions are not sexual or titillating. Occasionally I find myself naked in places that do have a more sexually charged atmosphere on my travels. I can maintain a nudists perspective regardless. I appreciated the above comment that one might find somebody attractive naked or clothed. It doesnt change one from being a nudist to a voyeur or exhibitionist.

Stay naked at home except when the kids are around. My wife encourages me in my nudity. I am very fortunate.

I'm enjoying all your replies - pretty much all of which chime with my own feelings about naturism. I have long felt more comfortable and relaxed without clothes, and these days only tend to put them on when society or the weather dictates. I particularly enjoy the sense of 'connection' when walking naked in the woods and hills - and also find a level of connection with other nudists which I don't often find with textile friends, partly because I feel more confident in myself in that setting and, for some reason, better able to be open and honest about who I am, what I think etc.
I am intrigued that no one so far has admitted to finding social nudity a sexual turn on - I know there are guys on the side who do, and for whom that side of things seems to be a major motivation. Only yesterday I had a message from someone wanting to arrange to meet up, who quickly went on to 'You won't mind if I get an erection will you? How about w@nking? Would you s*ck my c*ck?'. To me that is not what naturism/nudism is about - it's about sex and whether or not one is wearing clothes is largely irrelevant.

Comfort 2. Restrictive clothes chafe . tight clothes around any part of my body annoy me. Turtle necks, snug fitting anything , even pocket watches are uncomfortable. If clothed things are loose fitting. and always freeballing
Non-comformist. Always been a bit of one. Food taste, music, whatever. that easily spills over into clothing or lack there of.
Exhibitionist. I won't deny that i enjoy being noticed. When I do wear clothes i tend to wear lots of colors and not muted ones. My line
is " I try to be the brightest person in the room and I will let you define bright" Being the only one nude is certainly noticeable.
Lack of tan lines. always a bonus
Vulnerability. I have a hot tub and the number of nude soaks with the chats that come along with them have opened conversations about life
for both of us have been very rewarding.

One thing I have noticed while hiking nude is that that animals I come across seem to care less about me walking by.
I have had coyotes walk near me and barely turn their heads within 100 yards. Similar with deer and the smaller critters. Like above posters, I have suspected for years that forest critters are less startled by naked me than by clothed me. Could be the scent or not-in-nature color of clothing. But it could just be what I project energy-wise. We do have bear and now mountain lions where I live, though. So I may be hiking naked-with-a-cowbell. So much for not drawing attention to the naked hiker. :-)

That is why whenever I'm near nature, I feel the urge to instantly rip my clothes apart and run free like a wild bear that just escaped a Zoo and is now back home, in the wild. Our four legged brothers and sisters are already naked, it's natural. They won't be afraid of nakedness.ReactReply
