Why are you naked?

Reading thro many topics on here, and also from the odd venture into the chat rooms, and conversations on other naturist sites, I feel it worth asking the question as to what people's (particularly men's) motivation is for developing a nude lifestyle, especially when it comes to social nudity. Is it just an everyday part of life, or is it something that holds a certain thrill for you that goes beyond just simple enjoyment?

Be honest.
How many guys are naturists simply because they are more comfortable and relaxed that way, and are happy to socialise with other nude folk purely and simply on that basis?
Or how many of you actually like to be naked with other people so you can show off your body and get a good look at other people's?
Even more telling, how many of you are secretly (or not so secretly) hoping for some kind of sexual encounter as a result of being naked around other nudists? Do you relish getting an erection and showing it off to others? Are you always hoping the other men in the shower/on the beach/ in the sauna will also be sporting stiffies - or that someone (be that male or female) will initiate some form of sexual activity?

And where (if anywhere) do you feel the line should be drawn between what is classed as 'simple social naturism' and 'exhibitionism' or 'cruising'?

I work as a carpenter so I come home sweaty and take a shower first thing. I live alone and had slept naked since high school because its more comfortable so after some thought I couldnt come up with a good reason to wear clothes after my shower. After I was completely comfortable with doing things naked to the point that I forgot I was even naked, I started to not want to leave the house because I just didnt want to get dressed. Even before I knew that social non sexual nudity was a thing I always had an interest in being naked for some reason. I was not abused as a child in any way, if anything I was raised to never be naked with other people and I rarely if ever saw either of my parents naked. If anything I think I was always looking for acceptance because arent we ALL a little insecure when we are growing up? In my own personal life experience it seems like social nudity would be positive for everyone, it should be encouraged and it should be normalized.

    1. I have major issues with clothes causing excessive heat. When I go 2 bed, nude obviously, it takes less than 1 minute before I throw the covers off from getting to hot. I can't even have a sheet on me, and the older I get the worse it gets. Crazy thing is I get in my hot tub everyday, but put on light weight shorts and I'm ripping them a minute later.

    2. For the comfort. I can still remember being 12 and sneaking out at night into the brisk damp air and walking through the neighborhood, love the feeling of the cool air flowing all over my body. Now 56 years later I only wear anything if I go somewhere that requires clothing. I blew my 200' driveway today nude while it was only 56f and it felt fabulous. Thank God my textile wife understands and supports my 24/7 nudity.

After trying to stay hidden for a while I just told them I was a nudist and asked if I should try to build a fence tall enough to block the view. They said it wouldn't bother them so do as you like. We live on the side of a mountain so hard to hide. I have had many chats with them at the 4ft chainlink fence and out on our driveway that we share( they live below us). The others wave when they see me out.

One neighbor can see over my privacy fence into our pool area when he was on the deck. When a new neighbor moved in, I put a wind screen on top of the fence to block the view. At the end of the summer it was in poor condition so I took it down. The neighbor saw me and asked me why I had it in the first place, I told him I preferred to swim and sun nude and I knew that he could see over the fence from his deck. He said that it wouldn't bother him if he happened to see me nude. I haven't replaced the fence in any of the subsequent summers.

Thanks for sharing. As far as I can remember I have always hated wearing clothes. As far as I can remember I never understood the purpose of a bra or why women didnt have the same no shirt freedom as men. I grew up with this weird nuance from my parents that you should always be clothed around people especially my parents but that it was also ok to be naked just as long as no one saw you. It was really my bending and confusing. After I went college I experimented with sleeping naked and loved it. Then I would hang out in my room after class nude while doing home work and studying. If my roommates were out I would walk around nude. Then I stopped after I got married because of the struggle I grew up with. Having kids taught me that being naked is freeing and liberating. I now go nude mos rod the time I am home.

I feel at peace if I am content with my body as an active being of God. I do keep my distance, so I am not an exhibitionist and don't want to put anything salacious in someone else's mind especially women and some who seem to invade male spaces more and more. Sometimes it's good to be with other guys or even just left alone. So a club that does background checks is preferred over a random beach. Gay men on the beach are the worse. If I am resting, I have to cover up and want to be left alone!
Nudism during the social distancing pandemic was the best.
Part of this sentiment is from a large nudist club where I asked what kind of social groups there were as I wanted to meet others. I was told "most people here are very private and like to be left alone". Once I saw how much there was to see in nature, I totally got it, people had their own groups around the lake, were polite and friendly without being invasive -- everyone respected other's spaces. It changed me.
I'm a nudist, not a naturist. Sorry, to me, doing everything naked, especially "hanging out" is a bit pretentious.
I also draw the line with the doctor -- I prefer a male doctor and the urologist must be male. Had a bad experience with a female doctor and can tell you she and several others don't keep the Hippocratic Oath. Really don't want someone of the opposite sex getting into my business.
In most cases a male certified massage therapist too -- sometimes if they ask, I will say "whoever is strongest". Men need to stop being such homophobes and ask for a male therapist who can dig their hands into your back without the chitchat -- it's disrespectful to their wives and girlfriends to say they only want a(nother) woman to touch them. Though there is a 'masculine' woman I go to that does a good job that works on my back -- if it were my thighs and glutes, I would say 'no'.
If I were a female nudist, I definitely would want a female gynecologist. I think it was a bumper sticker: "I only said I was a nudist. I didn't agree to have a male gynecologist."

The only thing my neighbors ask is if grand kids come over I don't walk around nude, but here lately they have had company and have said not to bother putting clothes on as I am always tinkering around with stuff. I have always asked if I need to get dressed when they have company until here lately because they have said not to worry about it. So I guess they have become completely comfortable with my nudity. I am always cautious to that point because they are my neighbors, not anymore.

Well for us it was something I always wanted to do even as a preteen. I dreamed of being naked at church and when summer was here I tried to go skinny dipping when the water warmed up. After I moved away from home I was naked in my apartment as soon as I got home. But never knew about being a nudist !

I got married to my wife who had a son. We had talked about being naked, but waited for him to move out of the house first. Yes her son had seen her in a bra and that was not a problem. But still I made sure I had clothes on around him. But after he moved away the shorts hit the floor and we were free !

We had visited a hot springs and on a cabinet I found a sticker from TN. What theres a website ! It took me a few years to get a computer, but the first website I joined was TN. Loved it since ! Yes its a great way to start learning about social nudist lifestyle. People and places are great to find out about. Yes theres a sexual part of being a nudist ! But we have tried to separate them ! The wife hates it when the nude activities turned sexual. Like at a resort that was family oriented or being in the hot tub and things started.

For me it doesnt bother me that someone is sexually active. Its really beautiful to see. Pleasure and love are a whole lot better than violence ! But being nude and walking along the beach or in a forest. Feeling the Breeze or the feeling of the ground with out shoes is perfect. Something special about just stopping and sitting down and enjoying the moment ! Wow freedom to enjoy the simple things in life.

Why am I naked? Because its more comfortable. I live in a hot climate so why would I wear clothes ? Swim in clothes? It makes no sense.
I love the freedom and openness of nudity too. Amongst nudist there that camaraderie.
Yes Im naked sometimes sexually too, time and a place, but Im human.

First and foremost, I love the comfort of being naked. I do love seeing others naked and to be seen. Im married and dont really think about being sexual with others. I havent experienced arousal around others as I try to be respectful.

Being nude has always felt like an integral part of my identity. I remember one of the first books I encountered on the subject was Lee Baxandall's World Guide to Nude Beaches and Recreation. As I read about various locations and admired the stunning photographs, I thought how "cool" these nudists appeared! They seemed to be a group of individuals completely at ease and confident in their own skin. I was already accustomed to being nude by myself and aspired to join their ranks. However, despite my desire to embrace nudity, the journey was initially intimidating until I started meeting others who shared my perspective.

Being nude makes me feel liberated and authentic, similar to how others have described their experiences. I find it much easier to unwind when I'm not wearing clothes. I genuinely believe that embracing nudity has opened up opportunities for me that I might not have experienced otherwise. Initially, I was intensely curious about what living daily life without clothes would be like. Naturally, it turned out to be just ordinary and natural.

Naturism is a way of life that transcends mere nudity, offering a profound connection to the world around us. It is not simply about shedding clothes; it embodies a deeper understanding of our relationship with nature and ourselves. For me, naturism allows an intimate communion with my surroundings, a liberating experience where I can truly embrace the world in a carefree manner. The sensation of a gentle, warm breeze brushing against my skin or the sun's rays enveloping me in their warmth can evoke a sense of sensuality, a sweet reminder of life's simple pleasures. Most of the time, I am so absorbed in this natural state that I hardly notice my nakedness. However, there are moments when I must dress, and in those instances, I become acutely aware of the joyous freedom that I momentarily leave behind.

People have asked me why I am naked and usually my response is, try it and you will totally understand! Its a pure joy!

If I go to the beach or pool or just for sunbathing, to my mind, being naked is just much more comfortable than wearing clothes and all the palaver than you witness on a textile beach trying to get changed with out showing your "rude bits" ( why they're supposed to be "rude" when every human being on this planet conforms to one of two basic models is beyond me) - bugger that for a game of soldiers!.

been running free since the day I was born- Euro-minded farming family- old school and all this thrill of being naked, being seen, driving naked and all the rest of this "culture" never entered my life. It is just how I am. Had I had n y dithers, I'd have been born with a sharp Summer silk 90s double breasted Euro-cut BLACK suit,.., but Hugo Boss was not in business in 1957. THAT would be a great look to be born in tho!

This is such a necessary conversation. Thank you for asking it so openly.

For me, nudism is about freedom, not fantasy. Its a return to simplicity, a mental reset, and a way to reconnect with my body without judgment. I find peace in being nude, especially in nature not because its thrilling, but because its authentic.

That said, Ive definitely noticed how motivations can vary particularly among men and I think its important to draw a clear line between genuine naturism and exhibitionism or sexual intent. Theres nothing wrong with sexuality but social nudity should be grounded in respect, boundaries, and shared values.

If someones goal is to arouse or be aroused in public naturist spaces, Id say that crosses into a different realm entirely, one that doesnt belong in mainstream nudism. Consent and intention matter.

Were not here to perform or be pursued. Were here to exist, honestly and without shame.

It would be great to hear from others who feel the same, especially men who live the lifestyle for the peace it brings, not the attention it might get.

Mostly I'm naked now as an adult because of being exposed to it at a young age during a sleepover at a friend's house. I was able to spend a week with them and got to really like not wearing clothes. Stuck with me the rest of my life and the more I spend time with them.

I'm naked because my Dad was a nudist. He taught my brothers and I that there's nothing wrong with simple, casual nudity and to be comfortable with our bodies. I feel most comfortable and can relax faster while I'm naked.

Age 8 is when I remember stripping down for the first time as I ran wild through the woods around my house. That first taste of freedom from textiles was amazing. Granted as a kid I never wore a whole of clothing anyway, but being free from shorts and underwear was a feeling I had never experienced outdoors and I loved it. I stuck with it from that point on, stripping down any chance I got. For me is was this physical sensation of feeling the breeze across your entire body, the undergrowth of the forest brushing against my upper thigh, sitting naked on the forest floor when I stopped to rest. As I grew older that love stayed with me, I began nude sleeping at 15, started skinny dipping at 17 at night after my family went to sleep. Once I moved out at 18 and got my own place I became a full time nudist at home. And eventually I ventured into social nudism which has been am amazing experience. It was never that drive to be seen nude for me, but to just be nude. Clothing is restricting, and being a big thick stocky man it just made that feeling worse for me. I definitely fall under the simple social nudism category, but honestly I still would love nudism even without the social aspect of it.
