I just read through the comments on a topic titled "This Sites Culture." Many commenters expressed negative feelings about people who posted naked body images with no faces. Others referred to people who post content they considered sexual as "bad." Well, my feelings on this topic may offend some. But, oh well, here goes: One of my issues with the nudist/naturist community is how much they seem to like to sex shame. Sex-shaming is, after all, just another form of body-shaming. I wrote some about this in a recent blog post titled [link]/link/4e54463aa4d7bfa7/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubmFrZWR1bmFzaGFtZWQub3JnL3Bvc3QvY29uc3RydWN0aXZlLXdheXMtdG8tY2VsZWJyYXRlLWFuZC1wcm9tb3RlLW51ZGlzbQ%3D%3D[/link]Constructive Ways to Celebrate and Promote Nudism. Sure nudism isn't about sex. Nudity and sex are, however, linked in multiple ways. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with that. And, one thing is certain: if we accepted and embraced the notion that humans are sexual creatures then nude-shaming would be a thing of the past. Sex-shaming others actually perpetuates naked-shaming. As to why some people chose to NOT post photos that include their faces here is a fact: Some people simply cannot risk doing that. I am one of those. In my day job, I am somewhat of a public figure and if my naked body with face was out on the Internet my career would be over. That is a sad statement about the culture we live in. But, it is a fact. And, IMO, y'all who are on the "others are not nudists the way *I* am a nudist so they are bad" bandwagon are living in a paradigm that is not really much different than the modern culture which says your nudism is bad. Shaming others for expressing their nakedness/sexuality differently than you do is no different than the people who would shame you for being a nudist. You can't have it both ways. Live and let live. And, treat others as you would like to be treated. Then, the culture here will be just fine.

No argument with your live-and-let-live point; I don't mean to criticize other people's choices with these comments.

But... I suspect that public exposure for most people is less important than they fear. We have recently had, for example, a Republican governor and a Republican senator each elected with nude photos of them in circulation (Schwarzenegger and Brown, respectively.) This is not just a left-liberal thing. The one major exception I would cite is teachers of minors whose nude photos fall into the hands of their students; they're in deep trouble.

Even where there is a bit of risk, that risk may be worth taking, for a couple of reasons. In both cases I would draw an analogy with coming out gay, at least back in the early liberationist days when so few gays were publicly known. It's good for the nudist community for the general public to be aware that people they know, both personally and as public figures, are comfortable with social nudity. And it's good to be able to live your life without having to maintain a little, nagging, looking-over-your-shoulder separation of personas depending on your context.

With regard to headless profiles... I suppose that's a step on a path for some people. The site makes lots of judgements on photos. It's perfectly possible to put up only a face or a clothed pic and still participate fully in forums and chats and friend networks, although some people will object that they want to see you naked. Or you can put up a headless nude photo, and likewise still participate, but get objections from others that they'd like to see your face. So your choice of photo is also a choice about who you will find yourself interacting with.

We cannot win them all. No matter what you do there are those that will find fault with it as well as those who will admire it. I just don't worry about it. I will not criticize anyone unless it is in fun, and I expect to get it back when I do. You know, don't hand it out if you can't take it. But in reality, I don't understand the "if you don't do it like I do you are wrong" philosophy. Or the tearing down of someone to make yourself look better. We are a diverse society made up of many peoples and we need to embrace that. If everyone would work on their own hypocrisy they would take less notice of it others.
To me, your nationality, skin color, or body size is what makes you unique and perhaps worth getting to know more about. I accept friend requests from everyone unless it is one of those solicitation type things. I try to mind my own business but will report a solicitation message from someone whose profile is only minutes old or trying to lure me to another site. I just don't think I should criticize someone because they sin or think differently than I do or have a different physical appearance. Life is too short, live it naked! Just don't expect everyone to do it with you.

The chat room is notorious for shaming! No where in the rules does it say if you post a pic of yourself that your face MUST be in it. If someone posts a pic that doesn't have a face then they are automatically kicked out and sometimes banned. Personally I have and will not post a pic of myself in there. Lots of reasons but the double standard of having to show my face is the biggest one. I get to choose if I want to show it or not, not some anonymous person sitting behind a computer screen judging me! Nudism is for me freedom. And that freedom means that I show as much or as little as I choose, not what someone that I've never met and probably never will chooses for me!

Very good info. I am a nudist at heart who very rarely gets to go nude. I went on last years Big Nude Boat and loved it! I now signed up and paid for this months Big Nude Boat. My wife of 48 years who went with me to a nudist camp and who now has issues with me that involves loving to be nude and a nudist, is in my opinion offensive. She has had a double mastectomy for beast cancer well over a decade ago, so I can understand her reluctance to go nude, but: anyone want to offer some advice about why be a nudist that I can use in divorce court and with friends?

If you cannot post a nude picture with your face in it, then you shouldn't be posting any nude pictures at all.

This BS about "I'm a teacher", or "I'm an important public figure" crap doesn't cut it.

Plain and simple: If you post a headless nude picture of yourself, it is no different than posting a dickpic. Just don't post a picture at all!!

Also, there is no rule here saying you HAVE to post a nude pic. If you absolutely MUST post a pic of yourself: Just post one with your clothes on. No big deal.

    Geesh. Perverts.
Allow me to express a contrarian view: First, if you are concerned about showing your face (especially on an internet site), thats okay. Posting a headless photo, however, is like wearing a ski mask at a nudist resort. Ridiculous and a bit creepy. Second, posting a photo showing just your genitals is not about being sex-positive or body-positive; it is a dick pic and belongs on a dick pic website, not here. Third, the freedom of nudism is not an excuse for antisocial behavior. I have joined other men and women at a number of nudist events and venues over the years to participate in some common activity that we all enjoy (yoga, painting, swimming, poetry reading) and no one has EVER interrupted a conversation to talk about his penis, what kind of breasts/nipples/labia he likes, how he likes to shave his balls, masturbate in the shower at the gym with the door open, or any kind of sex act. It just does not happen. Here, however, ... Normal, healthy adults like to have sex. Duh. And normal, healthy adults are not ashamed to have sex. Double duh. But normal, healthy adults also know that there is a time and place for everything. Acting decently and expecting others to do the same is not sex-shaming. This is true whether you are clothed or not. The point of nudism is that you still behave decently even though you are nude. The anonymity of the internet does not change that. So ask yourself, why am I here? Is it to enjoy good times, sun and fun with other like-minded grownups? Or is it to eventually turn the conversation to your favorite (solo) sex act and post a dick pic? That answer determines what the culture of this site will be.
Perfect answer. Well done.

I share Stevie's anger. I'm sick and tired of perverts using naturism as a crutch for their perversion and ridiculous behavior.

Go ahead and jump on me for having a strong opinion against perversion on a naturist web forum. I really don't care. I'm right, you;re wrong, the end.
My anger comes from people who use naturism as an excuse for their own personal perversions.
That right there is the crux of the problem. Historically every time naturists and nudists say love and let live and dont defend the actual genuine authentic practice of non sexual social nudity it has gone badly for us. Just look at how far things have things have regressed from the hard fought wins of the golden age of nudism in the 50's and 60's. What happened? Some nudists said lets associate with the free sex movement advocates to gain more traction. The result when that movement petered out the social stigma against nudism increased. Google nudism today and all you get is porn. Googling porn should get you porn if you want it. As nudists have abdicated defending the term and others usurped it this is what happens. So live and let live is not really the solution. It hasnt worked. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I will fight for that but dont try to bully and same me into accepting you opinion by suggesting that my holding an opinion is shaming you. It is always amazing to me that healthy living eating healthy foods, exercise, breathing fresh air, communal supportive living, love of nature, supporting the environment all the things that were important to the first modern naturism show up nowhere in the arguments of the people who want to call themselves nudists but only see it as getting naked as a precursor to sex. No one has a monopoly on opinions. Some of us who believe in the authentic expression of naturism are standing on our opinions because we see and know what is real. I for one am glad to see happening here.

You call yourself FreeLee and freedom is scary to many as too open-ended. But the ideals of nudism you describe entail being responsible stewards of our bodies, the environment and our communities. It's all about balancing freedom and responsiblity, and I venture that your sure-footedness as ResponsibleLee is what allows your youth and vitality as others our age crumble into conventional curmudgeonry (which I hope is a word). Lee I like you, but you dont half go on some times.

I belong to other specialist interest site. One is for video gaming.

Everyone on it is a video gamer, we all have that in common.

In over 15 years no one has seen the need to ask.... is it ok to pee in the sink.
No one has ever mentioned getting an erection while playing Tomb Raider.
Minecraft players never mention if they like to wear a cock ring or not.
And its the same for all the other complete nonsense that the morons here ask.

Is it really the case....We dont wear clothes here so lets discus kinky stuff.... is this what you want associated with what its like to be a naturist?

We are all adults. But we dont all behave like it.

What I think we really need here is a group called "Morons who use the word Moron too often" Or maybe "Perverts who are Obsessed with Calling Other People Perverts. They could be a "group prison" of sorts, for those who use the word more than 5 times and then, only get out after they go through kindergarten again! There are several group owners like that. They look over your pictures and groups to see if they think you are worthy to be in their group. They make you maintain public profiles with full face pictures and you go to their page and it is private or friends only.
    Go figure.

Some people prefer to keep aspects of their life private while trying to connect to a group that associates with their private life- seeking friends to email with, 1 to 1 video chat with, and the like. The analogy of "wearing a ski mask at a nude resort" is absurd. A Nude Resort is a private club with a fence around it most of the times, you have to be a member as well most of the time to keep out "gawkers". At a nude resort you can share a private aspect of your life with like-minded people. Please find something else to make better comparison. Second- If the focus of a photo is just a DICK, then yes, it is a Dick Pic. But if other parts of your body like your chest, legs, arms, ..etc are in the picture as well, it is NOT a Dick Pic. It is simply a headless photo. You can see the same in a tattoo magazine- there are headless photos of various body parts, including genitalia and breasts, without exposing the identity of an individual. Third- So you have join a nudist event or club (mostly a private event or club with a fee or membership), good for you.!! So you have varied conversations about topics of interest, another good for you.!! But you still seem to equate your own personal views about what YOU deem as nudity or a naturalist. Does ever single person act the same everywhere..?? NOPE. Those conversations that you list above do occur at events, rare, but they do occur. If you try to tell me that you have NEVER looked at an other person at a nude event and had an inappropriate thought I will call your bluff on that one. You may not VERBALIZE it, but it happens.. as you also said, it is human nature to do so. Sounds like you need to decide whether you want to be part of the problem on this site, or support those who struggle with the idea having their personal life exposed with the fear of a lost career or position. How about we ALL get to know each other on a personal level and support each other as well. After-all, if you don't like what is being served at this party, move on to a different dish..!!
