I was in the steam room -- nude -- naturally. Some guys came and went -- no big deal. Or so I thought.

I got reported before being nude in the steam room and on top of that, for being nude in the shower and not pulling the curtain closed.

I asked what was the problem with being nude in the steam room. I was told it was posted as one of the rules. I said, that must be new because it wasn't there before. I came out of the steam room, put on my swim short, which I had hung on a hook outside the steam room. I then read the rules. There's nothing in the rules about prohibiting nudity in the steam room and nothing about prohibiting nudity in the locker room in general. I was told I should only be nude when I was actually changing clothing.

I said, this is a men's locker room, there cannot possibly be any issue with being nude in a men's locker room. I was told it was indecent. I said, there's nothing indecent about my body and this is a men's locker room. I was told that people had complained about seeing me nude in the steam room and in the shower.

I said the proper response to such a complaint is to state that this is a men's locker room and one should expect to encounter male nudity in a men's locker room. And also that there is no rule prohibiting nudity in locker room and steam room.

I think I'm going to write a letter to the corporate office and express my concerns.

Genesis Health Club. Specifically the south club in Springfield MO.

Oh, I remember having a conversation with a male trainer. Don't know how the subject came up but I remember expressing my amazement that guys pulled the curtain closed when they took showers. I asked, what are they doing that they need that level of privacy while taking a shower in a men's locker room? I continued with, I'm guessing they're jerking off. Why else would they bother with the curtain?

The trainer looked aghast and said he'd be leaving the curtain open from then on and he would not be so concerned about covering up while in the locker room. Don't remember his name. Even so, he was an independent trainer; not an employee.

Anyone else have issues with Genesis Health Club? Is this a new thing? Never been a problem before.

And you twisted it into what you wanted me to say. Go back and read what you said about what I said. Not even close to the same thing.
Mensa, you said Quote. I continued with, I'm guessing they're jerking off. Why else would they bother with the curtain? End quote You typed it, its been reposted 3 times now.

I feel comfortable with nudity everywhere its allowed and, or expected. Nudity in the gym Mr Mensa goes to has been restricted to changing clothes in the locker room. So Id be uncomfortable going nude into the steam room where its no longer expected or allowed. I hope this clears it up Mr Andy.
Thank you for introducing yourself on your profile. It helps me to put your thoughts in a context. What you wrote above is good where you show what you feel and think, not what you understand anybody else says or thinks. You speak for yourself - and let Mensa speak for himself. That makes things much easier and we all learn from each other. Good luck!
If having a nude picture on my profile somehow makes that a relevant opinion, its never going to happen. So get over it. I have.
The lack of images is only one of many issues.

Consider, for example, your lack of positive input. Even if you had dozens of nude images posted, your lack of positive contributions to discussions would completely eclipse any such photos.

The way I see it is that as nudist we aren't shy in a world of shame. Despite others' claims, I see most nudists as having positive motivations both in regards to their own bodies and their social interactions. Both are effective tools related to shaming, which is so toxic that some men even feel embarrassed to be in the company of those who aren't shamed. The penis might be become outlandish and cartoonish in porn and other media, but in a normal locker room gym it's not much noteworthy. That alone has a normalizing effect against shame. So I think we need to support one another as men in locker rooms to be calm, be centered, be naked, be a penis pioneer against toxic shame.

You know, I don't see a problem with an individual shower stall or two being provided with a curtain for those who wish to have some privacy, although that wish doesn't make sense to me. Some people need to have that, at least at first. After a while, I'd bet that they'd dispense with it once they got used to the nudity.

The last gym I went to the showers didn't have screens or doors. They were along a wall and open for everyone in the change room to see.

Wow, really? Even someone who isnt a nudist should have no issue with male nudity in a male locker room. What has happened to us?
Wow, really? Even someone who isnt a nudist should have no issue with male nudity in a male locker room. Some even provoke the offense. Too bad for society. It is much easier to just let things slide and not make a fuss unless it is something really important.

I have honestly never heard of an issue where your not allowed to be nude in the locker room. At my gym most guys walk around totally nude or a towel over their shoulder. They sit on a towel nude in the steam room and walk to the sinks to shave nude as well. Sorry to hear there are gyms who frown on using a locker room for its intended purpose.

I have been in locker rooms that required clothing in in saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs, and some that forbid nudity when shaving.
Glad to see that you have experienced more enlightened ones.

Keep in mind, [link]https://www.truenudists.com/user/BlgDudeMan/[/link]BigDudeMan, this is the same thread in which you berated me for being nude in a men's locker room.
Wow, really? Even someone who isnt a nudist should have no issue with male nudity in a male locker room. What has happened to us?

Agree totally.
And, now, you say you agree with the sentiment that no one should have an issue with male nudity in a male locker room.

There are two mistakes that I make over and over again and that get me into the most trouble. 1. People are capable of learning, and 2. People truly desire to learn.
And, now, you say you agree with the sentiment that no one should have an issue with male nudity in a male locker room.

You are a wise and patient teacher!
And so, which is it for me? Is it that I'm incapable of learning that others are incapable of learning or am I simply unwilling to accept that? From my perspective, I'm believing the best in others even when they do not believe in themselves.
From my perspective, I'm believing the best in others even when they do not believe in themselves.
That is a great starting point! Continuing: I say and do what I believe is right and best for both myself and others, and let go of the results. After a discernable shift: celebrate the result, feel the glow of pride without personal credit. Keep confirming the naked truth: I am what I am. They are what they are. It is what it is.
Shortly after I came back from the shower, three young college age guys came to the aisle wrapped in towels after showering.
My guess is that you're missing an important detail: you came back from the shower naked. You were the catalyst for them to feel more comfortable to be naked in the presence of each other. Or was it just coincidence?

I think it's interesting that guys that age challenged each other regarding simple nudity in the locker room.

What, exactly, are you hiding under that towel?

At the gym I go to, few of the adult men* are nude. Most change clothing VERY quickly, wrap a towel around their waist, pull the curtain closed when showering, do not unwrap in the steam room.

The boys** are never nude. They keep a towel wrapped around their waist as the change clothing. Many of them probably don't even change clothing at the gym as that would be way to embarrassing -- they do it at home -- likely in their master bathroom with the bedroom door closed and locked, and the bathroom door closed and locked.

*adult men -- 40 and older
    **boys -- 39 and younger
All those weirdo guys who change clothes in changing rooms and dont remain naked for any length of time for the rest of us to have a good ogle . Whats that all about?
I don't particularly like being ogled and imagine that only men who identify as exhibitionist do. I prefer to just be seen as a naked man among naked men, all with nothing to be ashamed of or to show off. That is the comfort level I want to create without any ogling.

For all of human history until just a few years ago, guys thought nothing of being nude in the presence of other guys (clothed or nude)
All those weirdo guys who change clothes in changing rooms and don't remain naked for any length of time for the rest of us to have a good ogle . The idea that nudity among guys was any cause of discomfiture was essentially unheard of. From that perspective, it makes the current mind set that any guy has anything to hide or be embarrassed about among other guys rather strange. It isn't a matter of anyone ogling anyone else. Rather it is a matter of being comfortable in one's own skin.

I am a 75 year okd nudist since swimming Nude at the YMCA. I find it ipvery interesting that the youth of today find it difficult to be nude in a male only gym locker room to shower. When I was in junior and senior high and I college all the guys showered nude together and toweled off in front of each other. We also shaved in the nude walked from the frat house to our rooms nude, wen5 swimming nude as that was the only way it could be done. No swimsuits allowed in the pool!
We have raised male boys to now be ashamed to show themselves nude in front of other men in environments where being nude is necessary! What a sad state of affairs!
Is it possible that points to the problem with the younger guys in the men's locker room. Are they truly curious to see what other guys look like but have never had any opportunity to check them out? Are they concerned that all the men in the locker room are equally curious and have a strong desire to check them out? Those of us who grew up changing clothing and showering with other guys got that out of your systems a long time ago. But these guys seem to have missed a developmental milestone and are stuck.
I think you nailed it. Due to our contemporary repressive culture, younger men have the same level of cock and balls curiosity that older men who grew up with social nudity had in middle school. In that regard, perhaps it's best for to let them ogle away related to our nudity.

I'm unconcerned whether someone wants to ogle me or not.
Perhaps it's best to let them ogle away related to our nudity.
If you want to look, have at it. If you don't, that's ok. But the problem really seems to be that these younger guys really do want to look, but can't admit it to themselves. So, instead of just looking and satisfying their curiosity, they file complaints with management, "I saw a naked man in the men's locker room." And, in most cases, they've been totally "protected" from this up until now; the men's locker room at the gym is probably the first place they've ever seen a naked man. They didn't change clothing or shower in junior high or high school gym class. They didn't change clothing or shower in college. They were not in the military where, as I've been told, there's no space given for shyness.
And, in most cases, they've been totally "protected" from this up until now; the men's locker room at the gym is probably the first place they've ever seen a naked man.
It sounds like they need to post signs either prohibiting nudity (like they do in some saunas) or to provide a warning: You may encounter, nudity, water or a combination thereof. The best way we can respond is to strut with all of the pride of the emperor in his new clothes and the authenticity of the child who could call nakedness for what it is, nothing more, nothing less.

Notice: This is a men's locker room. You may encounter male nudity herein. If you are offended by the male body when not covered with artificial adornment, then do not enter.
