Man, I hate those baggy, calf length shorts they call a swimsuit these days!!! How can anyone be so modest? I got some laughs at a water park for wearing a speedo but at least it doesn't pour water for an hour after I get out and keep me cold til it's dry! The smaller, the better for me. I'm not unfashionable usually, but can't get into this trend at all.

bristowJul 27, 2011Hate the drag of baggy shorts and that they stay wet for ages, I'll only wear them if I'm at the beach or water park. For lane swimming I used to wear speedos but nowadays wear squarecuts (which are tight like speedos but have legs like boxer-briefs and don't look as odd on me).
I've been lane swimming with both male and female friends (actually I went earlier tonight) and have never received a comment. Now if only I could swim nude at that pool!

dicemanJul 27, 2011I like to get as much sun as possible. When I have to cover my natural look, it's because I'm in a textile environment. Some parents in America frown on speedo's. I wear shorts with a tan through speedo under them so I have the option to respect others "comfort".

Neither sounds like a comfortable option! Especially after you have enjoyed swimming without the confines of a soggy suit! I almost want to say I just wouldn't go, but I guess if I had to - baggy pants. I would look awful in a Speedo! LOL! Scares me to even consider. Maybe a baggy suit with the liner cut out. That sounds like a good option for me!

Mostly I just no longer go where a suit is required to swim. It keeps me from paying to support the textile resort/pool industry.

Like that they are much of nothing and with just a little attention they are modest just enough to get by and don't feel too bad. That what I wear when i have to be textile. Thats what I wear when launching my kayak from a public area where nudity is not acceptable.

MitchOct 5, 2011When I was a kid, I was skinny and could and did wear a speedo. As I got older and bigger (stupid tasty food) I became self conscious and went to swim trunks. I am still not skinny and do not think if I had to wear a swimsuit I would choose a speedo. Though I do recall seeing at a big and tall shop years ago a size 50 speedo hanging from the ceiling of the store. Luckily I did not need that size and no even less so.
Anyway, being a nudist now, who needs a swimsuit!

Can't stand the big baggy shorts, like wearing capries. Speedos feel like wearing an elastic hammok, not natural. I usually find the nylon shorts the size from the 80's and use those for swimming in public.

Hey guys, just wear some shorty shorts like rugby shorts or the like. You can flop around freely with the sensation of being nude but not be offending the textiles.

I agree entirely -- I grew up (in the US) with swimsuits -- not boardshorts, but not quite Speedos either. I live in Europe and for men my age (50+), speedos are much more common! It is what the Europeans have been used to for years. It is primarily only the younger set (under 30 or less) who wear the board short - style. I can't imagine trying to swim in them! I was a life guard and one of the first survival skill lessons was to minimize the "dead-weight" in the water. We had an exercise in which we jumped in fully clothed (with a swimsuit underneath) and had to strip.I have several tan-thru suits to wear when not in a clothing opitonal setting, but I also have several Speedo style suits, which my wife has finally gotten used to me wearing. Local stores in the mid-west US do not have good suits available unless you are looking for swim competition suits.Skin only is the best suit -- that is the one God gave us in the beginning.

RoyalanJan 9, 2012If I have to wear anything on a beach, if I can't go nude, then I wear a thong or g string. I have done so for years, with virtually no problems anywhere. If you feel comfortable and act normally in what you wear, which I do you, then other people will hardly ever take any notice. It's only if you skulk around or try to hide in the sand dunes that it seems a bit weird or pervy. I'm a Brit and I know American attitudes are different. In Europe, skimpier trunks for men are gradually being worn more again. I live in Turkey and it was noticeable on the beaches here how many more men weare wearing briefer gear last year.

I believe it doesn't matter what people think. Some guys look funny in Speedos but who cares? We just have to feel comfortable. Personally, I usually wear ordinary shorts (only when I have to, of course) and take them off when I go for a swim. Fortunately, hardly anyone finds it weird, even on non-naturist beaches.

If I have to wear a swimsuit it is usually a G-string, because it is more comfortable than a thong and it is just as legal if appropriate swimwear is needed

DonaldFeb 3, 2012Hey, wear what you want. I sometimes will just pull my trousers or cut-offs, off and swim in public areas in my bikini undies. No big deal. If at a clothing optional or nude area then the underwear stay dry. Good for me! I don't particularly like the long legged shorts that guys wear, nowadays. I really don't like the modern basketball shorts. I played BB in the 60's and 70's when the BB shorts resembled bathing suits in shape and cut. Nowadays they resemble oversized boxer shorts. While we on it, I don't like the baggy pants that the baseball players wear. I liked the stirrup leggings and knee-high trousers. Oops, I digress. Find something you like and wear it. Or, wait to swim until you find a place where you don't need a suit at all. ;-) It is better for you!

Not to mention the silly tan lines they leave. For me they're a particular bane because I'm short and so they hit me too far down the leg. I do have a pair of Adidas swim trunks that look rather like running shorts with a liner. I usually make my own shorts from a pair of old jeans, or sometimes buy new jeans and then cut them to size. I often find that a pair of jeans cost less than a good pair of shorts and the shorts are never the right length. I cut them very short, but just long enough to cover the vegetables.ReactReply - RA
