Let me first start off with saying that I have always been a very affectionate kind of guy. I have always been a hugger. If I see someone I haven’t seen for a while I want a hug I am straight and secure enough with myself that I don’t have a problem hugging men or women. This is not a sexual thing for me at all it is simply like a hand shake for me. I have been an at home nudist for over 10 years now and recently started to explore the outdoor world of being a nudist and went to my first beach. I went alone and found a nice quiet spot to relax and I really enjoyed myself and it was extremely freeing. Over the last couple times I went there I started to talk to other people and started making friends. The last time I went I saw one of my friends there again and he immediately came up and hugged me and said hello which in itself did not bother me. The part that I am questioning is what is the correct etiquette for hugging other nudists, male or female? I ask this because when he hugged me certain parts had touched that I can only imagine would make some people uncomfortable. My friend is also straight so it didn’t really bother me too much because I know there was nothing sexual about it. but I would like to avoid making someone else feel uncomfortable if I hugged them. Up until this point I had just assumed that it would not be appropriate as some people might get uncomfortable but I thought I would bring it to the forum to see if you guys can straighten out the new guy because the last thing I would ever want to do is make someone feel uncomfortable. Thank you all in advance for any advice or input that you might be able to provide./font/font

RadManYoApr 10, 2011
I think these may be the 3 key things from prior posts... It may depend on how well you know the person. Long time acquintance or friend, no issue. Someone you just meet maybe. It's acceptable when you open your arms and the other person moves in for the hug. It's unacceptable when the other person gives you a "I don't think so" look to your outstretched arms.

Here is a suggestion also: if unsure how the other would take a hug (first time hug that is) try a "hip hug". Where you more or less put your arm around 'em. That way there is no way anyone can misunderstand your intentions, and you can see how they would react to a real hug. Just a thought.

I think these two posts sums up things quite nicely. And the latter one offers a good suggestion. Personally, I'm a self-proclaimed "hug-whore" so in generally I love giving hugs to all my friends! So don't fear the RadMan my nudie fam ^.^ *hugz* lol

ReactReply - CH

BrianJun 14, 2011I am an avid hugger. My friends and I always greet each other and say goodbye with hugs. I've never actually hugged any of them while naked yet, but I have hugged my best friend in our underwear. I'm working on easing him into becoming a full-fledged nudist.

WolfOct 12, 2011Being a Pagan, we hug, a lot. It's a much better energy exchange than a handshake.
My closer friends are greeted and bid goodbye with aproperhug (extended, full body contact from knees to shoulders) as we know it to be an energy exchange, nothing sexual, just a sharing of good healing energy. At our religious gatherings everyone is greeted and left with at least a full hug.
With new introductions and those less close, it could range from a handshake with my other hand on them (hand, forearm or shoulder), to a partial hug, to a full hug, to a proper hug, depending of what level of comfort they exhibit.
Of course, in my professional job, it's always a normal handshake, but even that i do proper...strong and extended, with energy exchange whether or not the other person is an energy practitioner (and in my field, 99.9% aren't).ReactReply - MEMemberAug 11, 2012I'd argue that there is ahintof sexuality in a hug. There is also ahintof sexuality in being naked around other adults. Tell me your pulse is never quickened when you meet, let alone hug, another nude person! It's controlling the emotions that's important... don't let that hint of sexuality avalanche into more overt sexual manifestations. Touch is a magnificent sense and, frankly, I think it's a shame that there isn't more touching allowed. Nudist resorts seem to be sort of clinical and sterile in that way. It's too bad that there isn't a happy medium between the status quo naturist venues and the full-blown swingers clubs. Imagine a nudist resort where your presence implies permission to "touch and be touched." We try to pigeonhole our sexuality into this or that category, but the real question is, are we or are we not receptive to human touch? I'm as straight and hetero as they come, yet, while I don't have a desire to pursue sexual relationships with anyone beyond my spouse, I would (potentially) love being "pet" by anyone.* Learn a lesson from your pet cat... does it discriminate with regard to whom it lets pet him or her! Certainly not. Is the petting of a sexual nature? Certainly not... well... er... not for 99.9% of us anyway :o ~Jim~ReactReply

GrantOct 27, 2012A hug is always acceptable with people who are consciously accepting, whether, nude or textile...why not?....there should be no fuzz about it and there is no law against it. Usually within among friends and perhaps people somehow bonded with. There is hugs for many reasons and the length of it.
Some hugs are emotional....romantic...or just brief... and yes there are also the unwanted deliberately restricting hugs, coupled with bad intentions and not desired for.ReactReply - T=

HawkOct 28, 2012There's nothing wrong with a hug when called upon.
Regardless or location, clothing, nude, etc, etc.
If someone you love or care for needs, want's or offers a hug, just go for it :-)

I give my mates hugs when clothed. I don't see myself hugging naked especially my mates when I'm naked. Each to their own once again and our own comfort level. I'm more of a fiat bumper anyhow. :)

jmill1309Apr 17, 2013
Just hug with the top part of your body and not with a full length press....
I agree with this as far as hugging people you aren't as close to. However, some nudist huggers I know will give a full-body hug and just not care about certain parts rubbing on the other person. I actually prefer full-body hugs, they are more loving.ReactReply - MA

atldavisApr 17, 2013I tend to be biased towards hugs, like many in this thread. I agree with the previous suggestion that hugs that are appropriate when clothed are also appropriate when naked. I think appropriateness has more to do with the mind-set of the recipient than anything else.
