Man, I hate those baggy, calf length shorts they call a swimsuit these days!!! How can anyone be so modest? I got some laughs at a water park for wearing a speedo but at least it doesn't pour water for an hour after I get out and keep me cold til it's dry! The smaller, the better for me. I'm not unfashionable usually, but can't get into this trend at all.

J Crew still sells short swimsuits and short shorts (available with 9, 7, and 5 inch inseams).  That's where I order them.  A bit pricey...but you do what you have to do.  :)

If I cant go nude it has to be speedo or  well cut swim wear.I think a lot of guys who are not into being nude worry about showing to much, or rather not enough when wearing speedo's. The cheeper designs flattern down , but a well cut pair can give you a good line.
Being naked is best though....I think we all agree on that..

It's one thing to be fashionable and another to deny what you are. People who think it's shameful for a woman's nipples to be evident or a guy's penis to produce a bulge, well, sorry for being what we are! Wearing a bathing suit doesn't make it go away. I guess wearing my speedo makes me a bit of an exhibitionist but it's also a soap box to yell out "I've got genitals which doesn't in any way change who I am!"  I saw a guy on the beach, he was probably 18, and he was playing some ball game with friends and I admired his hootzpah for wearing a pretty daring speedo. Not too many guys that age have the courage! The laughs and uneasiness are just like at the nudist club, they go away pretty quickly once people get past your crotch.

For me, if I have to wear something (like when doing laps at the local pool), it's a pair of speedos.  I find them more comfortable than the other permitted alternatives.

Of course, given a choice, nude would be the most preferable! :)

I personally wear a pair of mid-length running shorts with the liner cut out.  The wife bought me a pair of those big baggy swintrunks (I cut the liner out of them too) but I don't wear them.

Hey - I snuck in the Mens room !Can't answer the original post from a wearers perspective but, here's a view from over the fence.Board shorts on guys?  Well, surely its a matter of personal taste and preference by the wearer and yes, there are some body shapes that suit them but ... (and I'm gonna be totally politically incorrect here) ... my preference is, if it's a non nude environment and a guy has tight buns you could bounce a coin off then speedo up and gimme the eye candy!  Is that a sexual thing?  Probably yes, at some level.  Does it cause me to act inappropriately towards them?  No.  Is it wrong? I do not consider it so - a cat may look at a king and I am not at home to the notion of 'thought police'.  It is a question of aesthetics.  One side of my garden has a view of the countryside, one side of my garden looks towards a commercial development - guess which side I planted the tree screen? Love Rudie x

I always thought those "baggies" were pretty silly
But you have a great body and I imagine you look good in speedos.....with my build Id be better off naked! Which I prefer anyway

Speedo for me.  Actually it's a tan thru speedo.  I have found that it works very well and it is like having an spf 8 sunscreen on.

I have two pairs of the sun-thru speedos and they are great. But they usually come off, to no fault of their own, when I get into the water.
I think the suit brand is Solar.

If I can't be nude, I'm a tan-thru thong/speedo guy. At least if I HAVE to have a suit on, it won't ruin my no tan line tan line!

Hi,
this to me sounds so utterly American thread. Speedos are to be worn if you do swimming (at least before the present overalls appeared) and/or plain sunbathing in textile environment, others you wear for multiple purpose. Simple as that.

For me in public pools it is always Speedos or other similar brands, dont like baggy shorts at all.  Not worried about wearing the either despite my old and decrepid frame.

Part of the reason I'm a nudist is that I don't give a rat's @$$ what folks think of my fashion statements ! Therefore, whatever is handy works fine.
However, to keep Rudie happy, I'll don the tight speedos.
HA !

I was watching this morning beach scenes from Florida as they were talking about all the storms coming into the Southeast this season.  I was watching the boys and men in those huge stupid shorts.  Some of the guys coming out of the surf could barely walk due to the weight of the soaked shorts and how they were bagging to thier feet.  Why in the world wear such stupid creations.  I'm sorry but when we went to the rivers and camping as kids we would go nude.  Why wear heavy clothes to weigh you down and bind you while you are trying to swim.  Some of the men on the news report were having a heck of a time tryig to yank them back up, hahahaha. Humans are such strange creatures sometimes.

Loved your input Iaboykurt. You make your points with such sagacious supporting anecdotes! Not just an opinion but one based on clear and undeniable evidence. Fashion be damned. I took my speedo to the beach yesterday but thankfully only wore it around my neck once. It takes an armed battalion to force me into a bathing suit! (or my kids' friends, unfortunately!)

Actually I'd rather not wear either but I have worn speedos when I've forgotten my square cut suits, or they're being washed. I do have a couple pairs of the longer surf type shorts but use those mainly when I want to go commando.

who came up with this board short idea, now i notice most jean shorts sold at department stores are down below the knees for men and touching the crotch for women, what do we men have to do hibernate if i need to wear them that long might as well wear jeans.

This is why I never go to the beach, etc.  Those shorts look STUUUUPID, and I look ridiculous in a speedo, due to my build. Nude beach for me, any chance I get!

If I have to wear something to swim at all it will be shorts hust because I am not used to and don't like the feeling of having something holding all my bits up tight and constricted. I guess cos I am a freeballer when I wear clothes too.

I hate board shorts. I have found some nice swimwear from tyr and sauvage. Somewhere between a Speedo and board shorts... Once your at the beach, what you came in doesn't matter as much.

As a competitive swimmer I wear Speedos (I'm too mean or poor to pay for the full body suits) in competition.  When I am on the beach, I will wear baggy shorts over my speedos and when I get into the water I take off the baggy shorts and get into the water so I can swim properly.  You can't swim properly in baggy shorts!  Incidentally, when I am deep enough I take the speedos off and slip over my arm so i don't lose them, and swim wonderfully in the buff - always the best way.
A speedo or nothing. If you don't like what you see look away! I dress or undress for myself not other people.
Steve I agree with you 100%, people get to hung up on what others think of them and I don't give a damn what people think of me or how I'm dressed - I'm there to enjoy myself and feel comfortable!
