In my understanding of nude recreation - we are not here to flaunt sexuality. Why does it need to be a profile question? Strikes me as a little creepy and one of the reasons I have not opted for paid membership here in an otherwise good nudist organization online. Really I do not want to know who is what sexual orintation. I am not go looking for sexual information when I am in a nudist enviroment. Furthrmore I have a safe and balanced sexual life in the company of my loved one and do not look anywhere for extra cirricular gratification, here, my home club, work, other personal groups and organizations. Why should I be intrested here?

We need to get over the squeemishness in our minds and learn not to see it even when it is there. We all need to learn to confront our insecurities and demons in our own way and hiding under a rock is no way to live. Sometimes it is not about "Look at me! Loot at me!" Sometimes it is about, "Stop giving a crap!"ReactReply - FR
Fred RodgersAug 9, 2010We are who we are. If we are open (and secure) enough to admit to the world that we enjoy being nude in the presence of others, (unpopular here in the USA). Why then should those of us who are open (and secure) about our sexuality not admit that to the world as well? As it was pointed out above, you don't have to answer that question.

RoosterockAug 9, 2010I think this world would be maybe a little bit better, if people didn't want to flaunt who they are. I worked in a lumber mill most of my life and one of the mills, we had a gay guy. Working in a mill is not easy work, but this guy was not a very big guy yet he did any job just like everyone else and never told anyone he was gay. He was just one of the guys and a good friend to a lot of the guys. His brother worked there also an told me he was gay as most of the guys thought he maybe. That is the way it should be, why flaught that you are a swinger, gay, or bi. Just be an average person just like anyone. That is what I like about being a nudist, I have been on the beach where you have a guy with a rowboat next to the guy with a 30 footer. Neither one could care less with what you have, they are there for the company of others that enjoy being a nudist.

The simple answer is "this is a social network". This question as well as some of the other OPTIONAL questions are there to help us all get to know eachother.

JackNeilsonAug 9, 2010Welcome to a great site Primal.
I've found by experience that rough looking types are usually great people and those who are intimidated by them either don't have self confidence or fear rejection. I think its because tough looking folks just don't have anything to prove and can be themselves easier than those who think they have to prove themselves. Personally I am anything but tough looking but some of my best friends have been and we share mutual respect.
Bright Blessings to youReactReply - UK

westheathenAug 9, 2010I may be wrong in this but the software for this forum is probably a "straight out of the box" (ie not modified for a specific purpose) product. What leads me to this conclusion is the fact that one of the other question is why are you here and includes dating as an option.
Now if you were intending dating someone then their sexuality becomes VERY important.ReactReply - RO
RoosterockAug 9, 2010Nakednlouisville, The company I worked for had about 200 people there. There were guys that cheated on their wives, drunks that had to go to AAA, swingers and gays. There were people who knew or maybe just thought you were one of the obove. They did not ask you and you did not tell. You were there to work not date. You had friends and others had friends that they had something in common with. We did not make an issue out of finding out about your sexual preference. What you do behind closed doors is your business

JackNeilsonAug 9, 2010On my friends list I have people who are straight, gay. bi, married, single, different religions, and different ages. This is immaterial because I added them asFriends, not as potential dates or mates etc. I am not looking for dates or to hook-up but if I were I would wish to know first - sexual orientation, second - marital status, third - age, fourth - religion. I would not consider this discriminatory as these are important factors. As has been stated no-one isrequiredto state their status. Drop down menus are easy to use but do not cover all ramifications of status. For example I choose Other as my religion because I am Pagan but not Wiccan, probably the closest choice but does not define me. Therefore I will respond if asked for the meaning of Other in my profile but it is not readily discernible just by looking. The drop down menus give a variety of choices but it is not mandatory to use them.ReactReply - RO

Ellen & SebbAug 9, 2010I agree to a point. I am as eager as the next nudist to distinguish to the wider society the differenc between nudism/naturism and sex.
Having said that, I think the simplest way of defining nudism/naturism or one of a few ways, is that nudism/naturism is living life, even if only for two weeks in spain, naked. You do all the things that you would do in a textile place, except you do it nude. You eat, drink, socialise, exercise, relax etc, all in the buff.
Bearing that in mind, what if one of the things which I do in my everyday life is exercise my interest in my sexual pursuits. That is not say I have sex in social settings, but I would be open to meeting someone else with similar interests. Is it there not acceptable for me to expect that there might be nudists/naturists too, who share my interest in sex ? I'm sure there are nudists gardeners who like to meet and chat to other nudist gardeners !
I hope this makes sense.ReactReply - GE
Gerry-4Aug 19, 2010To some degree, gender and sexual orientation are part of our make-up, and this will affect how we deal with others and how they deal with us. I don't know about women, but I know some men who will censor themselves when women are around, or at least within hearing range. It's not that they can't be polite. They just like to let loose every now and then, and they may not feel comfortable doing that when women are around.
Something similar could be at play with people of different orientations. Women who like to joke that all the best men are either married or gay may think twice about saying that if a known gay man is around. It's sort of like toning down the criticism of Israel's government if someone in the group is of Jewish descent, or being a little more circumspect when discussing terrorism in the world if one of your number happens to be Muslim. And if you're a confirmed evolutionist, there's the outside chance you don't want to offend the neighbourhood creationist.
NONE OF THIS SHOULD MATTER. But it does.ReactReply - RO
RoosterockAug 19, 2010Nakednlouisville seems to have a problem, he feels since he is gay that everyone is out to get him. He doesn't seem to understand that people could care less, unless he forces himself on someone or is out to get attention because he is gay. What you do is your business. I could care less if it is a man, woman or animal. Quit reading things into what people write on here and just read the words without reading between the lines.

In this day and age it's kind of inexcusable, but some people still don't like to associate with those of a different sexual preference. It's sort of, in my eyes, a way to get to know people before you try to befriend them. I'm sure a lot of g/l/b/tg'ers know how annoying/rude/upsetting/saddening it can be to lose a potential friend simply because they don't agree with your lifestyle. So in one respect it might help to make better and more solid friendships by being open and honest with one another, and at the same time helping to avoid those people who haven't caught up with our more accepting times.
On the other hand, we do have a lot of single nudists here on TN who I am sure would love to have a nudist partner. True that TN shouldn't be used as a cyber or camsex website but what's the problem with people who might want to find a date for saturday? :) Again, it's all about being honest. If you think it's unneeded, maybe you're a little scared to be public with your preference, or maybe you plain just don't want people to know, then there's always the option of not checking that little box. But that's already been covered.

Curt, or CowboyNov 10, 2010Why is it there ? Because advertising works ! The most popular internet web sites ( not counting google ) are social networking sites. Opening this site up some-what to social networking makes this site more popular. Allowing members to find each other makes this site both more useful and more popular, ergo more successful. If I am a single guy, and I'm open to a relationship, it makes sense to have in/on the profile the criteria a potential partner might like as part of their screening process. I'm not bi, and I'm not gay, so a "date" prospect for either I'm not. How does that automatically say that I'mnotopen to a non-romantic friendship with either ? Or couples ? Or women too ? It doesn't, but it DOES increase my chances of running across a compatible partner, by accident or design, in yet another place. It does not mean that my purpose in being here is limited to finding a date, but it also says it's not totally out of the question, either. Why is this so hard for a few to grasp ?ReactReply - TO
ToddVNValleyNov 13, 2010You probably worked with more men sexually attracted to men in that lumber mill than you realized. The ones who protested too much were probably the closet cases.

RedGaterNov 13, 2010Funny thing, what I enjoy most about social nudism is the removal of classes and labels. Everyone is somehow equal once the things that set us apart have been romoved. But, in a non face to face environment like the internet, labels are neccesary to establish a starting point. If you want people to start with next to no knowledge of you, leave your profile blank. Myself, I perfer people to know a bit about me so that I can avoid contact with people who in the end will want nothing to do with me.

tsshaver1Nov 29, 2010
In one way or another, this is a social network which people may use to find relationships. So sexual orientation does seem to be necessary if people want to find relationships with other TN users. It doesn't necessarily mean that by stating what sex you are interested in you are set out for that one sole purpose... it's just one small part of such a great site! The fact that is a site for nudists is to bring us closer to people who share such a great interest in nudity
I think you hit it pretty well on the head. I am gay and I want people to know who I am, it is part of my identity. I am partnered but I still want to meet and socialize with other gay nudist men. Just because I am sexually attracted to other men does not mean I want to have sex with every guy I meet straight or otherqwise . A penis in and of itself is not that interesting after all. The person attached to it is what is importantReactReply - VI
